Why is OneSimCard eSIM not working?

The quicker you can diagnose the problem behind your OneSimCard not working, the faster you can get it up and running. Here are a few common reasons why your eSIM may not be connecting:

  • Device compatibility: Not all phones support eSIMs. Most newer iPhone and Android models support them, but some older or cheaper devices don’t. Similarly, some phones purchased in specific regions or countries may not have eSIM capability.
  • Mobile data or roaming settings: One of the most common reasons for a OneSimCard not working is that mobile data or roaming is switched off. Make sure they’re turned on before looking into other issues.
  • Network selection: Sometimes, your phone may not automatically connect to the strongest local network. In this case, you will need to manually select it through your phone’s settings.
  • APN settings: If your Access Point Name (APN) is not entered correctly or is outdated, your data connection may not work.

How to fix a OneSimCard eSIM

To overcome the common issues and get your OneSimCard eSIM working, try these troubleshooting steps.

1. Check if your device supports eSIMs

First, confirm that your device is eSIM-compatible.

    • OneSimCard not working on iPhone: eSIM is available on all iPhone XS, XR, and later models.

To check yours, go to Settings > Cellular/ Mobile Service. If the option for Add eSIM appears, your device is compatible.

    • OneSimCard not working on Android: Most of the latest Samsung Galaxy, Google Pixel, and other Android devices support eSIM technology.

Check under Settings > Connections > SIM Manager. If your Android is compatible, you will see the Add eSIM button here.

If your phone does not support eSIM, you won’t be able to activate OneSimCard or any other eSIM profile. For more guidance, you can find a complete list of eSIM-compatible devices here.

Important note: Your phone must also be carrier-unlocked to use eSIM technology. Find out if your iPhone or Android is locked here, then check out this guide to learn how to unlock your iPhone.

    2. Restart your phone after eSIM installation

If your phone is compatible but your OneSimCard is not working, restarting your device could be the answer. Restarting your phone forces the system to reinitialize and helps the eSIM connect to the network.

Power your device off, wait a few seconds, then turn it back on and see if your eSIM starts working.

      3. Turn on data roaming

Is your OneSimCard eSIM showing coverage, yet you cannot access the internet? This could be because data roaming is turned off. Here’s how to check:

        • iPhone: Go to Settings > Cellular / Mobile Service > Cellular Plans / Mobile data Options. Here, make sure Data Roaming is ON.
        • Android: Go to Settings > Connections > Mobile Networks > Data Roaming, and check that it is toggled to ON.

        4. Enable and disable airplane mode

Sometimes the reason why your OneSimCard is not working is surprisingly simple: You just need to refresh your connection by turning Airplane Mode on and off. This can help if your device is struggling to connect automatically.

Once you switch on Airplane Mode, wait about 30 seconds before turning it off again, then wait a minute or so as your phone searches for available networks.

          5. Manually select a local network in settings

If you’ve followed all the steps above and automatic selection still isn’t working, try choosing the network manually. Here’s how:

            • iPhone: Go to Settings > Cellular / Mobile Service > Network Selection. Switch Automatic OFF and pick a network from the list.
            • Android: Go to Settings > Connections > Mobile Networks > Network Operators. Here, select a carrier manually.

            6. Update or reset your APN settings

Finally, incorrect APN settings are a common cause of eSIM issues. If data isn’t working on an iPhone, you can manually enter the APN information provided by OneSimCard under Cellular Network in your settings.

If data isn’t working on Android, you can update the APN by going to Mobile Networks, then Access Point Names in your settings.

Refer to your OneSimCard’s support documentation for the correct APN.
