Ubigi is an eSIM provider available in over 200 destinations. It offers a variety of data plans, from one-off to annual, making it an accessible option for travelers. It’s worth looking into how good these data plans are, how much they cost, and how to contact Ubigi’s customer support.

In our Ubigi eSIM review, we’ll discuss all these features, as well as network coverage, data speeds, and some alternatives so that travelers can make a proper choice before their trip. We’ll also look at Holafly, a top eSIM with unlimited data to consider for your next trip.

Ubigi review: Features

Ubigi eSIM data plans are available for smartphones, tablets, Windows laptops, and some cars. Here’s more about the network coverage and quality, plans and pricing, customer service, and contract policies when using a Ubigi eSIM data plan.

Network coverage and quality

According to Ubigi, they offer coverage in over 200 destinations, including countries in Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, North America, the Middle East, Oceania, and the Caribbean.

However, even though they list 200 destinations, that’s not always the case, based on what a customer mentioned on Trustpilot. While Panama was on the list of Ubigi data plans, service wasn’t available in that country. So, it’s always better to double-check.

Also, according to a Trustpilot review, internet connectivity is not good in some destinations, like Japan.

The eSIM Ubigi works with 3G/4G/5G networks, depending on the destination. You can check which network your eSIM will be using as the partner network providers are listed for each plan.

Before purchasing, travelers can check the coverage quality at their destination to avoid connectivity issues.

Data plans and prices

Let’s talk about the different data plans from Ubigi. There are three types of plans: one-off, monthly, and annual. Here’s what you need to know about each of them:

  • One-off plans: These plans work for a specific amount of time, ranging from one to 30 days, and are available on the app and website. Depending on the plan, these might include limited or unlimited data.
  • Monthly plans: These plans are available exclusively for customers with an existing eSIM and can only be purchased through the Ubigi app. Ubigi users can use these plans for as long as they want, and they can choose between limited and unlimited data options depending on the destination. Payments are recurring monthly.
  • Annual plans: These plans include a monthly automatic renewal for mobile data, which can be purchased on the Ubigi app and website. However, the total price for the plan must be paid upfront.

When purchasing an Ubigi eSIM card, users can purchase single-destination, global, or regional data plans. These are the available regions:

  • Asia: 25 destinations
  • Caribbean: 29 destinations
  • Europe: 35 destinations
  • Middle East: 14 destinations
  • America: 23 destinations
  • Africa: 42 destinations
  • Oceania: 10 destinations
  • Global: 195 destinations

Note: Some destinations are only available within regional packages, not as single-destination Ubigi plans.

Here’s a price list for Ubigi eSIM cards:

Customer service and technical support

Take into consideration that Ubigi customer support is not available 24/7.

To contact Ubigi’s support, people must do so between 8:00 AM and 9:00 PM (CET) Monday through Sunday. This is particularly inconvenient if you are using their services while saying in countries that are in entirely different time zones.

Also, Ubigi doesn’t offer live chat. Instead, they use a website form that requires people to leave their name and email with their message for customer service to reply during working hours.

Additionally, a contact form is available, which is a bit more comprehensive as users can list additional information, such as eSIM number, device type, and type of request.

Lastly, there’s a huge downside to Ubigi’s customer support — it’s not available on the Ubigi app. To request customer support, you’ll need to switch to their website.

eSIM compatibility

Ubigi doesn’t offer refunds if your phone isn’t compatible with eSIM technology. A user on Trustpilot claims that he couldn’t get a refund for an unused eSIM because his phone didn’t support it.

Before buying, users can check the list of eSIM-compatible devices from Ubigi, which includes Android and iOS phones and tablets, as well as some Windows PCs.

If you have a device compatible with eSIM technology that is not listed on Ubigi’s list, contact them before purchasing.

Contract and cancellation policies

Knowing what happens if you stop using your eSIM and when you can request a refund is important when using Ubigi’s plans.

To get an Ubigi refund, these are only available if the following conditions are met:

  • Technical issues: If Transatel had technical issues, Ubigi could offer a partial or full refund.
  • QR code wasn’t scanned: Only Ubigi users that did not complete the eSIM setup are eligible for a refund. This only applies to devices compatible with an eSIM.

Make sure you don’t delete your Ubigi eSIM before you’ve filed your refund request and it has been fully processed, as customer support might ask you to provide details related to the eSIM.

There are other issues you can come across, but these won’t get you a refund for your eSIM card:

  • You’re no longer eligible for a refund after scanning the QR code for the Ubigi eSIM card.
  • You’re not eligible for a refund if your device is either carrier-locked or eSIM-locked.
  • Top-ups on Ubigi eSIMs are not eligible for a refund.

Note: To request a refund, users must send a message to customer service within 14 business days of the purchase/technical issues. They will receive the refund within 10 business days.

Regarding cancellation policies, Ubigi doesn’t charge hidden fees if someone stops using their eSIM cards because they switched to a different service or stopped using them before the data plan ended. Just remember Ubigi’s eligibility criteria for the refund.

Ubigi review verdict: Is the Ubigi eSIM worth using?

Overall, the Ubigi eSIMs are not a bad idea for staying connected when traveling abroad.

That said, Holafly eSIM offers a lot of what Ubigi does, all while providing 24/7 customer support and unlimited data with all plans.

On top of traditional eSIM plans, Holafly also offers a subscription option with Holafly Connect. This is a great option if you need global mobile internet for an extended period of time. Simply choose the data limit that suits your needs and enjoy worldwide coverage and unlimited data sharing, and cancel the service when you no longer need it.

If you need more information on how the two compare, check out our detailed Holafly vs. Ubigi comparison.

Considering all of the Holafly features, the next step for you is to choose which Holafly eSIM to take and get a hassle-free connection in over 200 destinations!
