Telstra international eSIM: How to use Telstra outside of Australia
With no dedicated Telstra international eSIM Telstra customers need to use roaming plans instead - learn about package price, length and data allowances
Telstra offers Australian international roaming packages to customers travelling overseas, allowing them to stay connected abroad.
This guide looks at Telstra’s international roaming coverage and costs so you can decide if it fits your needs. Plus, if your destination isn’t covered – or you want to compare alternatives – we’ll also introduce an unlimited data alternative — a dedicated travel eSIM from Holafly.

Does Telstra offer an international travel eSIM?
There is no dedicated Telstra eSIM for international travel. Instead, Telstra customers heading abroad need to use Telstra international roaming options.
Travel abroad using Telstra international roaming
Telstra has three different roaming plans, which you can buy in the My Telstra app. You need to download the app before you travel and purchase your package on arrival at your destination. The package becomes active immediately after purchase.
Plan/duration | Price | Data | International call minutes | SMS/MMS |
---|---|---|---|---|
3 Day Travel Pack | $10 AUD | 200 MB | 15 | 15 |
7 Day Travel Pack | $15 | 2 GB | 25 | 25 |
15 Day Travel Pack | $25 | 4 GB | 50 | 50 |
There’s no rollover for data or talk, and the plans don’t auto-renew. If you exhaust your allowance or the package expires, you need to buy a new roaming plan in the Telstra app.
Telstra only offers up to 4 GB of data with its roaming packs. This is enough for basic internet access, but you’ll likely need to buy more data if you need to use maps, view videos, or stream shows.
Consider how much data you need when you travel to decide if Telstra’s packages will be enough for you.
Telstra international eSIM roaming packages cover 38 destinations globally. This includes popular vacation travel spots like Bali and New Zealand, as well as much of Europe. But there are some exceptions, like Vietnam, which is one of the hottest destinations for Australians heading overseas right now.
If your destination is not covered by Telstra, they advise that you use wi-fi or buy a local SIM in your destination instead. Wi-fi can be unreliable, and getting a local SIM card adds stress to your holiday. If your phone is eSIM-compatible, a dedicated travel eSIM from Holafly could be a better choice.
