How to Receive SMS Abroad with Holafly Plans?
Stay reachable anywhere with your Holafly Plans eSIM (monthly or annual). Each plan includes a European phone number at no extra cost, so you can receive SMS abroad without roaming fees. From bank codes and 2FA verifications to delivery alerts, you’ll never miss an important message while traveling. Keep reading to learn how your Holafly number works, how to find it, and how to set up your device to start receiving messages seamlessly.
How Your Holafly Number Works
Once your Holafly Plans eSIM is installed, a dedicated Austrian phone number (+43) is automatically assigned to you. It works in all countries covered by your subscription, allowing you to receive unlimited incoming SMS from banks, apps, or services, no matter where you are. However, this number supports only incoming SMS (no outgoing texts or calls) and is a feature available exclusively for Holafly monthly and annual plans.
How to Find Your Holafly Number on Your Phone
Once your Holafly Plans eSIM is installed, your European number is automatically generated and stored in your phone settings. You can access it anytime, no extra apps or setup required. Follow the steps below to locate it easily:
To find your Holafly eSIM number on iPhone:
- Open Settings and go to Cellular (or Mobile Data) → Look for the Holafly eSIM line, it may appear labeled as Holafly, Travel, Business, or the custom name you chose → Your assigned number will appear under that line, always starting with the Austrian prefix +43.
To see your Holafly Plans number on Android settings:
- Open Settings and tap Network & Internet → SIMs (or Connections → SIM Manager, depending on your device) → Go to your Holafly eSIM, it may appear labeled as eSIM 1, eSIM 2, Holafly, Travel, or the custom name you chose → You’ll find your assigned number displayed under the eSIM name, also beginning with +43.
Note: Your number may take a few minutes to appear after installation. Restart your device to refresh it. Should it still not display, contact Holafly Support for help verifying your assigned line.
To Keep in Mind
- This feature is available only for Holafly Plans (not eSIMs by days).
- Outgoing SMS and phone calls are not supported.
- You can receive SMS worldwide, but some banks or services may not send verification codes to non-local numbers.
- Don’t delete your Holafly eSIM, doing so permanently removes your assigned number. Deactivate it instead if you’re not using it.
- If you’d like to make calls using your personal SIM, you can activate it, but this may generate roaming charges from your local carrier.
How to Activate Your Holafly eSIM to Receive SMS
To receive SMS on the number included with your Holafly Plans eSIM subscription, your eSIM must be installed and properly activated on your device. The setup takes just a minute. Follow the steps below to activate it on iPhone or Android.
To set up SMS on iPhone with your Holafly eSIM:
- Open your Settings → Tap Mobile service and make sure your Holafly eSIM is turned on (To avoid roaming charges, turn off your personal SIM while abroad) → Then, select your Holafly eSIM, enable Data Roaming, and keep it active so your number stays connected to the local network → Finally, go back to Mobile service → tap on Default Voice Line → Choose your Holafly eSIM (it may appear labeled as Holafly, Travel, Business, or the custom name you chose) to ensure SMS messages are received correctly.
To set up SMS on Android with your Holafly eSIM:
- Open Settings → Tap Network & Internet → Then Connections → SIM Manager → Turn on your Holafly eSIM if it’s not already active → Make sure Mobile Data and Data Roaming are ON to keep your number connected to the local network → Go to the Preferred SIMs section and tap on Messages → Finally, select your Holafly eSIM (it may appear labeled as eSIM 1, eSIM 2, Holafly, Travel, or the custom name you assigned).
Troubleshooting Tips
If your Holafly eSIM is active, but you’re not receiving SMS messages, try the following:
- Restart the network settings on your iOS or Android to refresh the connection with the local network.
- Check that Mobile Data and Data Roaming are enabled for your Holafly eSIM.
- Verify your Holafly eSIM is selected as the default line for SMS.
- Ensure the sender supports international numbers, since not all banks or services deliver OTPs to non-local numbers.
- If you’re using Dual SIM, confirm your personal SIM is off and that Holafly is prioritized for SMS reception.
