However, roaming in Turkey isn’t your only option. A travel eSIM from Holafly is a hassle-free and cost-effective alternative to roaming in Turkey.

Does Vodafone UK work in Turkey?

Yes, Turkey is included in Vodafone UK’s roaming solutions. You’ll be able to use your mobile phone as normal through Vodafone’s various roaming options and passes based on Zone C’s unique pricing, as Turkey lies in Zone C.

If you’re heading to Turkey on a Vodafone plan, you have a few options to stay connected and use your existing plan’s allowances abroad

Is Vodafone roaming free in Turkey?

Vodafone offers free roaming in certain zones, such as Euro Zones A and B. However, Turkey is not included in Vodafone’s Euro Zone, so roaming in Turkey is not free

Vodafone does provide monthly plans that include roaming for certain destinations, such as Turkey. If you do not have such a plan, expect to pay extra for roaming passes or pay-as-you-go charges.

Vodafone roaming charges in Turkey

Turkey roaming options with Vodafone depend on your existing plan and can generally be split into three categories: monthly plans, roaming passes, and pay-as-you-go roaming

Vodafone’s roaming packages vary by zone; since Turkey falls in Global Roam Zone C, you’ll be subjected to these specific rates. Here’s a closer look at each data roaming option.

Monthly plans

Monthly plans are home mobile contracts that come with roaming included at no extra charge. These are popular with frequent travellers, but are pricier than standard plans.

Vodafone offers Unlimited Max Global Roam, which includes Vodafone’s EU roaming in its Euro Zone and (up to 25 GB) roaming in 83 other international destinations, including Turkey. If you’re currently on this plan, you won’t have to worry about purchasing roaming passes or add-ons.

Some eSIM providers like Holafly also offer monthly eSIM subscriptions in over 170 destinations (including Turkey), perfect for frequent travellers and remote workers. Holafly Connect provides unlimited data with unlimited hotspot sharing for ~£47 per month.

Vodafone roaming pass for Turkey

If you’re not on a monthly plan that covers roaming, you can get a Vodafone roaming pass for Turkey instead (only for Pay Monthly customers).

This roaming pass lets you use your regular call and text monthly allowances – and data up to 25 GB – from your current Vodafone plan while in Turkey.

  • If you bought your plan on or after 11 August 2021, you’ll be charged £7.86 a day on top of your existing plan for international calls, texts and up to 25 GB of data.
  • If you bought your plan before 11 August 2021, you’ll be charged £6 a day in addition to your existing plan for international calls, texts, and up to 25 GB of data.

If you exceed your allowance or Vodafone’s 25 GB Fair Data Usage Policy, you’ll have to pay the same rates as you do in the UK.

Pay as you go

If you’re a pay-as-you-go customer, you’ll have to pay the standard roaming rates for Turkey:

  • Make calls: 60p per minute
  • Receive calls: 36p per minute
  • Text messages: 8p per text
  • MMS: 66p per text
  • Data: 12p per MB

Vodafone roaming Extras

If you’re on a Pay as you go Plus plan, you’ll need to buy a Vodafone roaming Extra pass to use your phone in Turkey. Here’s a table summarising the two Extras options for Turkey.

ExtraDestinationsDataCallTextPrice
8-day Around the World Extra74 roaming destinations, including Turkey2 GB 100 minutes 100 texts £17
15-day Around the World Extra74 roaming destinations, including Turkey4 GB 200 minutes 200 texts £27

How to activate Vodafone roaming in Turkey

The first step to using Vodafone’s roaming services in Turkey is to turn on data roaming on your phone by going to your settings. You won’t have to activate anything if you’re on a Vodafone monthly plan with inclusive roaming.

To add a roaming pass to your plan, visit your Vodafone account online or through the MyVodafone app, or text the roaming passcode to 40506. Once your roaming pass is set up, you can turn on data roaming on your phone.

To select Vodafone’s Extras, visit the My Vodafone app and activate them once you’re ready to start roaming. Once activated, they will begin straight away.

If you haven’t turned on data roaming on your phone, you won’t be able to connect to Vodafone’s roaming services while travelling abroad, even if you’ve purchased roaming passes or extras.
