If you are a Telstra customer in Australia planning a trip to Vietnam, you can use your existing SIM card at the destination without having to purchase a local one. This guide explains Telstra roaming in Vietnam, including the postpaid $10 daily pass and prepaid roaming packs

If you’re looking for other alternatives by the end, Holafly offers unlimited data, reliable coverage in 200+ destinations, and 24/7 customer support in Vietnam.

Can you use Telstra roaming in Vietnam?

Yes, Telstra international roaming works in Vietnam for eligible postpaid and prepaid customers. Since Vietnam is included in Telstra’s Zone 2 international roaming countries, Telstra users don’t need to purchase a Vietnam SIM card as they can use Telstra roaming in this country.

So, when you land in Vietnam, your phone will connect to one of the local networks, including Viettel, VinaPhone, and MobiFone. Your phone usually automatically selects the network that has the strongest signal where you are.

Telstra $10 postpaid daily roaming pass for Vietnam

Telstra offers its $10 daily roaming pass to postpaid customers travelling to Zone 2, which includes Vietnam. This plan is only available for specific postpaid plans, including Telstra Plus, Choice, and Business plans.

With a Telstra $10 daily roaming pass, you can access 2 GB of data per day with unlimited calls and SMS. So, if you use Telstra roaming in Vietnam for 7 days, $70 will be added to your monthly bill.

  • Eligibility: Available on Telstra Plus, Choice, and Business plans.
  • Cost: $10 per day
  • Includes: Unlimited standard calls and SMS in Vietnam, 2 GB data per day.

Note: If you exceed your daily data allowance, you can purchase an additional 2 GB for $10. However, any unused data expires at the end of each day and doesn’t roll over to the next day. It’s helpful to estimate how much data you need for travel to avoid unexpected charges.

7-day travel pack$152 GB25 minutes25 SMS/ MMS

Notes:

  • If you run out of data or other inclusions before your pack expires, you can use the My Telstra app to recharge your plan or purchase another pack. Use our data usage calculator to make sure you choose a pack with enough data based on your usage.
  • You usually receive usage alerts when you reach 50%, 85%, and 100% of your data. So, make sure to have the latest version of the app on your phone.
  • If you don’t purchase a roaming pack, you can’t use Telstra roaming in Vietnam because there are no standard pay-as-you-go rates available for prepaid plans.

Telstra pay-as-you-go rates for Vietnam (Postpaid users only)

If you are not eligible to use the Telstra daily roaming passes, the standard pay-as-you-go rates will apply, which can get very expensive if you are a heavy data user.

  • Data rate: $3 per MB.
  • SMS: $0.75 per message.
  • Voice rates: $3.50 per MB.
  • Warning: At $3 per MB, small activities like navigating Google Maps or using data-heavy apps like Snapchat can cost as high as $300. In this case, purchasing an eSIM can be more cost-effective.

Note: Pay-as-you-go rates only apply to postpaid users who are on $129+ plans, leased, BYO, Premium, or Business Premium plans. Prepaid users who don’t purchase an international roaming pack can’t use Telstra roaming in Vietnam, even at PAYG rates.
