As a Sky Mobile customer, you can roam in over 70 popular destinations using your UK allowances. Outside these destinations, you may incur roaming charges.

Whether you’re heading to Europe or further afield, this guide explains everything you need to know about Sky Mobile roaming, including charges, plans, coverage, and how to stay connected abroad. We’ll also include an alternative travel solution, the Holafly eSIM, for the ultimate peace of mind.

Can you use Sky Mobile abroad?

Yes, you can use Sky Mobile abroad as a UK customer. You’ll be able to use your existing allowances if you travel to the 70+ roaming-inclusive destinations. For other destinations, you’ll have to pay additional roaming charges if you want to call, text, or use mobile data abroad.

When traveling, your phone connects to a partner network in your destination country, enabling you to continue using your usual services and allowances. Before traveling, it’s essential to check your roaming settings, ensure your device is compatible, and understand any extra charges that may apply.

Sky Mobile roaming plans

Sky Mobile’s main roaming plan is the Roaming Passport Plus pass, which covers over 70 destinations.

Roaming Passport Plus pass

You can access your UK data, calls, and texts plan allowances for £2 for 24 hours. (Data usage is subject to Sky Mobile’s Fair Usage Policy.)

You won’t have to order or add the pass to your account. The pass activates automatically as soon as you call, text, or use more than 10 MB of data a day when you’re in an eligible destination.

Here’s how to ensure everything works properly:

  • Make sure data roaming and mobile data are switched on in your phone’s settings.
  • Sky Mobile will text to confirm once the 24 hours have started and when the pass is about to expire.
  • The £2 charges (and any extra roaming charges) will be added to your next bill.
  • You’ll only be charged for the days you use calls, texts, and mobile data (over 10 MB).

Important: If your data usage is set too low or to £0, you won’t be able to use your phone abroad. Your data usage needs to be at least £14 a month to use the Roaming Passport Plus pass for a week’s holiday. You’ll have to pay extra roaming charges if you call or text a local/international number abroad or send a picture message (MMS), even if you have a Roaming Passport Plus pass.

Sky Mobile roaming charges (PAYG)

When roaming outside of the Roaming Passport Plus destinations, you’ll have to pay for any calls, texts, and data you use.

Roaming chargesData (per MB)Calls (per minute) to all numbersReceiving calls (per minute)Texts (per text) to all numbersMMS to UK mobiles (per message)
£0.07-12.00£0.36-8.64£0.14-1.80£0.12-1.08£0.58-3.30

Charges vary slightly depending on the destination. For example, data roaming charges are £0.07 per MB for North Macedonia and £4.32 per MB for Algeria.

How to activate Sky Mobile international roaming

To use Sky Mobile data roaming, you’ll need to ensure roaming is enabled on both your account and device.

  1. Log in to your Sky Mobile account
  2. Go to roaming settings
  3. Turn on roaming for your SIM
  4. Check your monthly spend cap
  5. Enable data roaming in your phone settings:
  6. On iPhone, head to Settings > Mobile Data > Data Roaming
  7. On Android devices, head to Settings > Connections > Mobile Networks > Data Roaming.

You can also restart your phone when you arrive abroad to refresh the network settings. Once you use your allowances in a Roaming Passport Plus destination (call, text, or use more than 10 MB), your pass will be activated automatically.
