But no matter the network, roaming isn’t always the best option. That’s why we also cover cost-effective alternatives to roaming plans, such as unlimited data travel eSIMs. Keep reading to learn more about Rogers’ roaming plans and how they compare to eSIMs from providers like Holafly.

What is Rogers international roaming?

Rogers is a mobile network provider that offers broadband and mobile services to users across Canada. It also offers specific plans for users who want to travel internationally and continue using their phones to text, call, and stay connected.

If you’re on a Rogers roaming plan, you can continue using your phone number to make and receive calls, and send and receive texts. You’ll also be able to access the internet.

Rogers international roaming services offers roaming options in three categories:

  • Roam Like Home
  • Travel Pass
  • Pay-per-use

Continue reading for an in-depth look at each Rogers roaming plan, including essential details such as eligibility, coverage, talk, text, and data allowances.

Rogers international roaming plans: A breakdown

Before discussing each of Rogers’ roaming options, here’s a brief side-by-side comparison.

Roam Like Home

Roam Like Home is Rogers’ main international roaming plan for Rogers users. It’s available for individuals and small businesses on a Rogers Infinite Data plan and other select plans.

Rogers’ Roam Like Home roaming plan is available in over 185 destinations worldwide for a daily fee – $14 CAD per day in the United States and $16 per day in other eligible destinations.  You can search for the country you’re travelling to and view your roaming options in Rogers’ search bar

To check if you’re eligible for Roam Like Home, text “travel” to 222 or go to Business Self-Serve and search for your plan.

Here’s how it works:

  • You’re charged on days you use your device abroad (make or receive a call, send a text, call your voicemail, or use data).
  • You’ll only be charged for 20 days of usage abroad per monthly bill; after this you can keep using Roam Like Home until the end of your bill for free.
  • The daily fee covers each day until 11:59 PM Eastern Time (ET), regardless of what zone you’re in .
  • Data allowances depend on your current Rogers plan; you can use your available data with Roam Like Home.
  • You’ll receive unlimited calling and texting to numbers in the destination you’re travelling to and to Canadian numbers.
  • Calls and texts sent to destinations outside your current Roam Like Home location will be charged at pay-per-use rates

If you’re looking for a more straightforward solution and want to avoid paying daily roaming charges, a travel eSIM might be a better option.

Holafly’s unlimited data eSIMs provide up to 5G coverage in over 200 destinations at highly affordable prices. For example, compared to Roam Like Home’s daily roaming fee of $16 in Europe, Holafly’s eSIM for Europe offers unlimited data starting at $8 CAD for one day.

And this number only gets smaller the more days you add to your plan. A 7-day trip to Europe will cost $40 ($6 per day).

30-day Travel Pass for the United States

Rogers’ Travel Pass is an alternative roaming option for travellers looking for an extended stay in the United States. This plan includes a 30-day pass for a one-time fee of $60.

You’ll be able to access your current plan’s data and talk and text allowances, just like in Canada. Our data calculator can help you calculate how much data you’ll need for your trip.

Here’s how to get the 30-day United States Travel Pass:

  • Log in to your MyRogers account.
  • Select Manage beside the number you want to add the travel pass to.
  • Select Manage add-ons and choose the 30-Day US Travel Pass.

The Travel Pass will immediately activate after you get the add-on. To avoid wasting any days, begin your 30 days of roaming on the day your trip begins or when you land at your destination.

Rogers’ Travel Pass is a solid option for longer trips to the US, but it’s limited to the single destination and your home contract’s monthly data allowance.

With Holafly’s monthly subscription service, Holafly Connect, you can get unlimited data in the United States and 170+ other eligible destinations for only $64.90 (~$89) monthly. Plus, you’ll get unlimited hotspot tethering for the rest of your devices!

With various plans, including unlimited data, 25 GB and 10 GB, you can select one according to your connectivity needs and never worry about running out of data while on holiday. Activate your monthly Holafly Connect plan in an instant and cancel anytime without fees.

Rogers international roaming pay-per-use rates

If you are not on a Rogers plan that covers international roaming, and haven’t purchased a Rogers travel pass, you will be subject to Rogers’ standard pay-per-use rates

Rogers offers separate roaming rates for each destination depending on the zone they are in. Here are a few popular destinations with pay-per-use rates:

How to add a Rogers international roaming plan to your phone

To add Rogers roaming to your mobile, you’ll first need to check if roaming in your destination is possible with Rogers.

Next, you should understand if your home mobile plan includes international roaming. Since most Rogers’ postpaid mobile plans are eligible and automatically enrolled in Roam Like Home, you only have to turn on data roaming on your mobile device to access the service.

Once you arrive at your destination, you’ll receive a welcome text confirming Roam Like Home is activated and ready to use. In other situations, this text will include the destination’s pay-per-use rates, whether Roam Like Home is available, or if you’ve opted out of using Roam Like Home.

Roam Like Home isn’t available on cruise ships or airplanes. However, you can still call and text at pay-per-use rates.

The best way to manage roaming options for Rogers’ international roaming services is through their app, MyRogers.

Do you need to turn on data roaming for Rogers roaming plans?

Yes, data roaming must be enabled in your phone’s settings so that your phone can access foreign roaming networks.

If this is not turned on, your phone cannot use mobile data abroad even if you’ve already added a Roam Like Home or a 30-day Travel Pass to your account.

Here’s how you can turn on data roaming to activate Rogers international roaming services on your cell phone:

How to activate international roaming on an iPhone:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Tap Mobile Service.
  3. Tap your primary number.
  4. Scroll down and toggle the Data Roaming button.

Avoid daily roaming charges with Holafly

If you’re a Rogers customer, you can most likely access roaming plans for as little as $14/day.

This is convenient, and includes texts and calls back home. However, you’ll eat into your usual monthly data allowance. Calls and texts do not use data, but sending a simple WhatsApp message will eat up your allowance.

If you run out, you’ll be subject to Rogers’ pay-per-use rates, which can rack up quite a large bill, especially if you use data frequently or plan to use data-heavy apps such as Instagram, YouTube, or Netflix.

Holafly eSIMs are the perfect solution to avoid extra roaming charges. With unlimited data and 500 MB of daily hotspot sharing, you can stay connected in over 200 destinations without worrying about running out of data or paying extra fees.

For as little as $5 a day, you can enjoy unlimited data and browsing for 15 days in the United States with a Holafly eSIM for the USA. Want to spend more or less time in the States? No problem. You can match your plan to your trip so you never have to pay for more than you need. A simple set-up process, managing your plan from the Holafly app, and 24/7 customer support only add to the experience.
