Does giffgaff work abroad?
Yes, giffgaff works abroad in many EU and other selected destinations. Giffgaff’s roaming service allows users to use their phone outside the UK by connecting to partner mobile networks.
This means you’ll be able to make calls, send texts, and use data just like you would at home, but only in giffgaff’s specific roaming-inclusive countries. Outside of these selected destinations, you’ll have to settle for pay-as-you-go rates or purchase travel data add-ons.

If you’re travelling to any of the following destinations as a giffgaff user, you can use your call and text allowance at no extra cost. There is a 5 GB data limit. If you go over this, it’ll cost you 10p per MB.

giffgaff roaming plans
As a giffgaff customer, you’re entitled to your UK allowances in the selected destinations mentioned above. There is a 5 GB data cap per plan. If you go over the data cap, it’ll cost you 10p per MB.
Calls and texts are unlimited, but read up on giffgaff’s fair usage policy to ensure you don’t hit the limit and lose access to roaming.
Travel data add-ons
You can purchase travel data add-ons for a total of 61 destinations: 37 EU and selected destinations (EU zone), plus Albania, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Egypt, Hong Kong, India, Jamaica, Japan, Kosovo, Malaysia, Mexico, Montenegro, New Zealand, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Africa, Switzerland, Thailand, Türkiye (Turkey), Ukraine, and the USA.

Pay-as-you-go rates
If you go over your allowances and do not purchase a travel data add-on, you’ll be subject to pay-as-you-go rates.

- Texts to UK mobiles and landlines: 25p per minute
How to activate giffgaff data roaming
To start using giffgaff data roaming, follow these steps:
- Ensure your giffgaff SIM is active and inserted in your device
- Go to your phone settings
- Turn on data roaming
