Around Easter is a great time to travel. Couple merry mild Spring weather with iconic Easter traditions and you’ve got the recipe for an unforgettable experience.
With March and April being part of the shoulder season in most international travel destinations, you’ll get to enjoy all of this even if you’re on a budget.
We’ve curated a list of the Holafly team’s favorite places to go for Easter — along with a mini highlight reel on how you can make the most of each city’s Easter events and celebrate the holiday like a local. Cheers, to an egg-cellent trip — first and last pun, promise!

1. Rome, Italy
Rome is one of the best places to go for Easter, especially since 2025 is the Jubilee Year.
If you’re interested in the spiritual aspect of things, you’ll get to experience the Vatican’s spectacular Easter celebrations, and have the once-in-25-year opportunity to pass through the Holy Doors at the four major basilicas: St. Peter’s, St. John Lateran, St. Mary Major, and St. Paul Outside the Walls. Bear in mind that this is a major global event for Catholics – expect crowds.
Unlike Christmas — when many attractions are closed — they remain open during the Easter holidays.
This means you’ll be able to visit all of Rome’s iconic landmarks including the Colosseum, Roman Forum, Pantheon, and Catacombs. Only the Vatican Museums (and the Sistine Chapel) will be closed on Easter Sunday and Monday.

Top things to do in Rome for Easter
- Attend the Pope’s Easter Sunday Mass at St. Peter’s Square where he delivers the traditional Urbi et Orbi (To the City and to the World) blessing from the balcony.
- On Good Friday, take in the torchlit Via Crucis procession led by the Pope from the Colosseum to the Roman Forum, reenacting Christ’s Passion.
- Sample traditional Roman Easter dishes like abbacchio a scottadito (grilled lamb) and colomba di Pasqua (Easter dove cake).
- Easter Monday in Rome is picnic day (pasquetta) — so, pack your basket with Italian treats and head to the gardens of Villa Borghese for a bite.
Holafly top tips: Book your stay in Trastevere (Rome’s Boho Street) — you’ve got plenty of guesthouses and boutique hotels, and it’s only a 20-minute walk to Vatican City.
Also, Easter comes in Spring which can be rainy in Rome, so don’t forget your umbrella and poncho! Also, consider grabbing a Rome tourist card for a budget-friendly way to explore top attractions.
Travel tip: Easter in 2025 falls on April 20th – if you’re thinking of a March break instead, check out our guide to places to visit in March instead. |
2. Seville, Spain
If you’re already in Europe and wondering where to go for Easter, then consider spending the Semana Santa (Holy Week) in Seville — it’s one of the city’s two biggest festivals.
Plus, as Seville is one of our picks for cheap places to visit in April, you’ll be able to find low cost fun while you’re there.
You’ll find floats (pasos) carrying incredibly detailed scenes from Jesus’s life and death, paraded through the streets on the shoulders of local brotherhoods (hermandades).
Each brotherhood starts from its own church and passes through the ‘official route’ — a path starting on Campana Street and leaving through the Cathedral. The night between Holy Thursday and Good Friday — La Madruga — is the best part of the Holy Week in Seville.
This is when the biggest processions happen, all heading towards the Cathedral at dawn.

Top things to do in Seville for Easter
- Attend the grand Easter Sunday Mass at Seville Cathedral or for a more intimate experience, go to Iglesia de San Luis de los Franceses.
- Try traditional Spanish foods like torrijas (a sweet dish similar to French toast) and pestiños (fried pastries drizzled with honey or sugar).
- If you’re traveling with children, check out some of the less formal processions like Montesión, San Bernardo, El Sol, and La O. They can stand at the front row and ask the brotherhood (nazarenos) for small tokens like stamps, cards, and candy.
Travel tip: During the Holy Week, processions take a lot of time — sometimes 12-14 hours. They usually start at 3:00 PM and go on until early morning (2:00 AM).
During that time, taxis will not be able to pick you up or drop you at the city center. Try to book your accommodation at one of the newer neighborhoods like Los Remedios or Nervión.
3. Jerusalem, Israel
Another of our top Easter getaways is Jerusalem. In Christian tradition, the city has witnessed everything — the crucifixion, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
You’ll find different Christian communities, from Catholics to Orthodox Christians, each celebrating with their own unique traditions and rituals.
You can attend a Catholic Mass at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher on Easter Sunday, witness the Holy Fire Ceremony by Orthodox Christians on Holy Saturday, or the Easter Services at the Garden Tomb by Protestant denominations.
Important note: Currently, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) advises against travel to parts of Israel, while the U.S. Department of State warns against travel to Gaza due to terrorism and conflict, and to northern Israel near the Lebanese and Syrian borders due to military activity. Travelers are also urged to reconsider visits to Israel and the West Bank due to terrorism and civil unrest.
Top things to do in Jerusalem for Easter
- Walk the Via Dolorosa to retrace Jesus’s final steps. This ancient path is marked by nine chapels, each commemorating an event leading up to his crucifixion.
- Follow the Jerusalem Palm Sunday Procession which commemorates Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem and is led by leaders of the Catholic Patriarchate, the Latin Patriarch, and the Greek Archbishop.
- Head to Mount Zion (the location of the Last Supper). You can also visit King David’s Tomb.
- Families with young children should check out the Easter celebrations in the Armenian Old Quarter. You can join local Easter egg-dyeing events where you dye eggs red to symbolize the blood of Christ and test your luck in egg-tapping contests.
Holafly’s travel tip: Plan your stay near the Old City — it’s close to most Easter celebrations. Some of the hotels even host Easter egg hunts and egg decoration workshops — great options to keep children occupied. Rooms do sell out fast, so book early!
4. New York City, USA
New York City isn’t just popular for its ‘over-the-top’ Christmas celebrations — in our eyes, too much is never enough — it’s also on the list of top places to go on Easter.
From fun parades and relaxing cruises to solemn services, New York City guarantees an unforgettable Easter experience.
A highlight is the Easter Parade and Bonnet Festival on Fifth Avenue. It usually runs from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM and you’ll see people in elaborate hats — from flamboyant floral arrangements to legendary lego creations featuring the Statue of Liberty.
Top things to do in New York City for Easter
- Participate in an egg hunt at Central Park or the Children’s Museum of Manhattan.
- If you’re a runner, join the Always Hope Easter Run which includes 5K, 10K, and half-marathon runs.
- Attend the Easter service at St. Peter’s Cathedral, or listen to a music performance by the Harlem Gospel Choir.
- Take an Easter-themed cruise along the Hudson River. These cruises often include brunch or dinner and live music.
Holafly’s travel tip: Try to stay in Midtown Manhattan if you want to be close to the celebrations. If budget is a concern, then Brooklyn may be more affordable for your Easter stay.
5. San Diego, USA
Another of our favorite US Easter getaways is San Diego, California. It’s an egg-stravagant (whoops!) affair with beachside services and egg hunts, visits from the Easter Bunny, and more.
Many hotels in the area host their own Easter-themed events ranging from four-course brunches and elaborate buffets to (underwater) egg hunts, egg decoration stalls, and photo opportunities with the Easter Bunny.
Top things to do in San Diego for Easter
- Check out Elmo’s Eggstravaganza at Sesame Place. An annual Easter-themed event, it includes stage shows, egg scavenger hunts, and more.
- Attend the Easter Sunrise Service at Coronado Beach. It’s held at the north end of Ocean Blvd across from Sunset Park and the beach campfires are usually lit by 5:00 AM. For the not-so-early risers, another option is the Sunrise Service at Ponto Beach (7:00 AM).
- Participate in San Diego Animal Sanctuary and Farm’s Easter egg hunt. It takes place across the 20-acre farm and you’ll find thousands of eggs filled with goodies like candy, toys, and even plush animals.
- Go on an Easter Sunday cruise. They last anywhere from two to four hours and many also have kid-friendly activities.
Holafly’s travel tip: Stay in downtown San Diego to be close to the city’s various Easter festivities. Plus, many restaurants in the area also have special ‘Easter Menus,’ so be sure to inquire about them when making reservations.
6. Paris, France
If you’re looking for a springtime, European getaway, we suggest Paris for the Easter weekend. Paris, at any time, is undeniably beautiful — but the Easter celebrations give it a lightness and joie de vivre that’s unbeatable.
You’ll find dozens of egg hunts and Easter festivities all over the city. And the bakeries and chocolate shops go all out.
You’ll find the most delicious sweet treats and absolutely decadent chocolates — so much so that chocolate hopping tours during the Easter holiday are now a thing in Paris.
Fun fact: In France, instead of the Easter Bunny, church bells are said to deliver the chocolate eggs. Legends say the bells fly to Rome during Holy Week to receive a blessing from the Pope — they remain silent from Maundy Thursday to Easter Sunday, symbolizing mourning.
On Easter Sunday, the bells return to France and bring chocolate eggs and treats for well-behaved children.
Top things to do in Paris for Easter
- Take in a special Easter concert at one of Paris’ many churches and chapels like Saint-Ephrem or Saint-Sulpice. They’re usually ticketed events so reserve your spot in advance.
- For Easter chocolates, we suggest Fauchon (their chocolate eggs are a work of art) and Chocolat Foucher (their bonbons are to die for!).
- Attend the Easter Services in English at either the American Cathedral or St. Michael’s Church.
- Join an Easter egg hunt at popular places like Musée Montmartre, Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte, and Jardin d’Acclimatation.
Travel tip: Many of the smaller shops and restaurants will be closed from Holy Thursday to Easter Monday and the metro and city buses will run on a limited holiday schedule. Plan your itinerary accordingly.
7. The Maldives
If your mind’s set on a luxurious, indulgent holiday and you’re wondering where to go for the Easter weekend, then you’ll love the Maldives. Most resorts in the Maldives organize special Easter-themed activities, including egg hunts, themed buffets, and family-centric events throughout the weekend.
You won’t find many traditional Easter celebrations and services, but you’ll definitely enjoy the fun activities and floating brunches in private pools. Especially as many resorts also offer Easter deals.
Top things to do in The Maldives for Easter
- Make the most of the Easter festivities at your resort — whether that’s a family brunch, gala dinner, or egg hunt.
- For families with kids, you can sign them up for an Easter Celebrations Program at a Kids Club for a fun-filled day that includes scavenger hunts, bean bag tosses, and more.
- Look for resorts with unique Easter themes for a one-of-a-kind experience. In the past, resorts have hosted reproductions of Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory, Winter Wonderlands, and even an eco-friendly Easter event that included palm leaf basket weaving workshops, live music led by local artists, and a farm-to-table Easter feast.
Holafly’s travel tip: If you’ve got time, consider staying at more than one resort or exploring different islands. That way, you can experience the Easter celebrations in more than one place. Don’t forget to pack your sunscreen — the Maldives has a UV index of over 12 which is quite high. For more tips, download our packing checklist for international trips.
