Telus roaming in Mexico: Plans and prices

Each Telus roaming option in Mexico has its own data allowances and pricing. Here’s a quick breakdown of what each plan offers and how much it costs.

Easy Roam

Easy Roam is a roaming plan that’s available for every Telus user.

This roaming plan costs CAD $16/day, and here’s what the plan includes:

  • Data: Uses your monthly data allowance
  • Talk: Unlimited
  • Texts: Unlimited

To activate Telus roaming in Mexico, simply send a message to 7626 with the word TRAVEL. It will enable the roaming service in ~30 seconds. Alternatively, you can use the My TELUS website to activate the Easy Roam plans.

The service will start working when you use data, make/receive a phone call, or send a text message while in Mexico. No need to worry if the service is enabled and you’re using your phone in Canada. It doesn’t activate when you’re connected to domestic networks.

Note: In case you use your monthly data allowance, you can add a top-up using My TELUS app or through My TELUS website. This option is available before and during your trip.

Easy Roam Travel Pass (Mexico)

The Easy Roam Travel Pass allows Telus users to stay connected in Mexico and the Caribbean for extended periods.

Currently, there’s only one plan available: the 7-day plan, which costs $60. Here’s what the Travel Pass includes:

  • Data: Uses your monthly data allowance
  • Talk: Unlimited
  • Texts: Unlimited

To activate this service, follow the same steps as when activating the Easy Roam plans or using the My Telus website

Note: Upon activation, the plan is available for 45 days.

Pay-per-use

If you haven’t activated your Easy Roam or Travel Pass, you’ll have access to the pay-per-use roaming service.

Here are the Telus roaming fees for Mexico with this plan:

  • $5/MB
  • $2/minute
  • $0.75/text

How to avoid Telus roaming charges in Mexico

Telus roaming plans in Mexico might be helpful when traveling, but you’ll be limited in data, and you can easily spend over $100 for just a week using the roaming service.

Here are money-saving tips to avoid surprise roaming charges while visiting Mexico:

  • Use the Easy Roam Travel Pass: This option for a 7-day trip can save you money compared to using the Easy Roam or pay-per-use plans while in Mexico.
  • Daily check your data usage: Since you’ll be using your local data allowance on the Easy Roam and Easy Roam Travel Pass, keep an eye on how much data roaming you’ve spent to avoid extra expenses.
  • Find a budget-friendly option: Telus offers Canadians a quick roaming solution, but for a price. Using alternatives like an eSIM can reduce your roaming costs.
