What is Heya roaming?

Heya is a SIM-only mobile service operating on Singtel’s network, with a focus on digital convenience and flexibility. Roaming with Heya means you can stay online in selected destinations using your existing plan or by adding data packs through the app.

There’s no need for a contract or store visit; everything is managed through your phone. While voice and outgoing SMS aren’t supported abroad, incoming texts and full data access are available, making it ideal for app-based communication while travelling.

Heya roaming countries

Heya roaming supports regional travel across Asia and Oceania, with coverage split between included destinations and those that require a roaming add-on. Some key Heya roaming countries include:

  • Heya roaming in Malaysia
  • Heya roaming in Thailand
  • Heya roaming in Australia

Here’s a breakdown of the coverage structure by pack type:

Pack typeDestinations covered
$10 heya planMalaysia, Indonesia, Thailand
$13 heya plan & heya DataRoam Add-onMalaysia, Indonesia, Thailand + Australia, Bangladesh, Brunei, Cambodia, Hong Kong, India, Macau, Philippines, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Vietnam

Heya roaming: Plans and pricing

All Heya plans include free roaming in 15 Asia-Pacific destinations, with no excess or pay-per-use charges. If you need more data or are travelling beyond the included destinations, you can purchase an add-on plan to continue using data abroad. Everything is prepaid and contract-free, making it simple to manage through the Heya app.

Here is a breakdown of all available Heya roaming plans and pricing in Singapore dollars (SGD).

PlanRoaming dataDestinations coveredValidity
$10 heya plan200 GB roaming data3 destinations30 days
$13 heya plan300 GB roaming data for Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand + 10 GB for 12 additional destinations15 destinations30 days

For the $13 Heya Plan, roaming data is used in order of expiry, starting with Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand. Once data for these three countries is consumed or expires, usage continues with the remaining 12 destinations included in the plan.

For example, if you visit Malaysia and Vietnam in the same week, your data will first be deducted from the Malaysia allowance. Only after that will the 10 GB pool for Vietnam and the other 11 destinations start to apply.

There is no rollover of unused roaming data between plans. Roaming calls and outgoing SMS are not supported; only data and incoming SMS are available while abroad.

Heya mobile roaming add-ons

If your roaming data runs out or you need short-term access without repurchasing a full plan, Heya also offers a low-cost DataRoam add-on. This add-on extends your connectivity in supported destinations and can be activated anytime through the app.

* Important to note:

  • You can stack multiple heya DataRoam Add-on plans, but the total usable data is capped at 10 GB.
  • If you exceed this 10 GB limit, any additional purchased data will be forfeited.
  • If a new add-on is purchased before the current one expires, unused data may roll over, subject to the 10 GB cap.
  • DataRoam service is automatically deactivated once the data is fully used or the 7-day period ends.
  • To resume service, you’ll need to purchase a new add-on.
  • Roaming coverage is only available in the 15 listed destinations.
  • Network performance may vary depending on local infrastructure and conditions, and is not guaranteed by Heya or Singtel.

With just two straightforward prepaid plans and the heya DataRoam Add-on, this digital teclo keeps overseas connectivity simple and predictable. Just double-check how much data you’ll need for travel beforehand to determine the right choice for your needs.

How to avoid high roaming charges

Even with prepaid roaming, it’s important to manage your usage smartly, especially when switching countries or using data-heavy apps. These tips will help you avoid unexpected roaming charges and stay connected without overspending:

  • Keep an eye on your data balance using the Heya app, especially if you’re using the 10 GB regional roaming allowance.
  • Turn off background data and app auto-updates before you travel.
  • Use hotel or public Wi-Fi for streaming, downloads, and video calls.
  • Disable data roaming in your phone settings when not needed.
  • Purchase heya DataRoam add-on  plan through the app before your roaming data runs out.
  • Consider using an unlimited eSIM like Holafly if you’re visiting multiple destinations or staying longer, and avoid unexpected roaming charges entirely.

Holafly eSIM: An unlimited data alternative to Heya roaming

Heya works well for short trips within Asia-Pacific destinations, but the 10 GB roaming cap on its $13 plan can run out quickly, especially if you’re using maps, video calls, or streaming while abroad. If you’re travelling to multiple countries or planning a longer stay, running out of data mid-trip can be both inconvenient and costly.

With Holafly, you get unlimited data in over 200 destinations worldwide. A 5-day plan for destinations like Thailand or Japan starts from just $8 per day, with no top-ups or surprises. It activates instantly via QR code, and there’s no need to switch SIM cards or manage different roaming zones.

For longer stays, the Holafly Plans offers continuous unlimited data starting from $51 monthly with auto-renew, ideal for remote workers, backpackers, or anyone staying connected across borders.
