Looking to get a Sparks eSIM the next time you travel but aren’t sure if it’s the right fit for you? Follow along for our Sparks eSIM review, where we take an in-depth look at their entire service, including pricing, coverage, plans, ease of use, and additional features.

Sparks eSIM review

Plans and pricing

Sparks is best known for its single-destination, fixed-data eSIM plans with long validity times. A vast majority of plans have a minimum validity period of 60 days, with some plans extending up to 120 days and more. This makes Sparks a solid option if you need internet for basic needs for a longer period of time.

On top of that, Sparks eSIMs are transferable. So, if you fail to use your data limit and still have some time on the eSIM after your trip, you can transfer it to a friend and ensure you make the most out of your money.

That said, all plans have a fixed data limit, so don’t expect to use data-heavy apps and not run out of data for the full 60+ days. Let’s take a look at some of the most popular offers on the Sparks store so you can get a good idea of what you may expect to pay for your eSIM.

AustriaUSAEurope+
1 GB for 60 days$3.20$3.20$3.20
2 GB for 60 days$3.90$3.90$4.80
3 GB for 60 days$4.40$4.50$6.20
5 GB for 60 days$5.60$5.90$8.20
10 GB for 60 days$8.50$9.00$14.00
15 GB for 60 days$12.60$13.30$20.70
30 GB for 90 days$24.60$26.20$40.40
50 GB for 120 days$40.60$43.40$64.80

There aren’t many multi-destination options to choose from with Sparks. The only two being the Europe+ plan which covers 41 countries and the Switzerland plan, which covers not only Switzerland but also Germany, Italy, France, and Austria. If you’re traveling outside of Europe, your only option is to buy an eSIM for each specific country you visit.

Coverage

As of the writing of this article, Sparks offers eSIM plans for 133 different countries. That’s less than the 200+ destinations offered by industry leaders such as Holafly, but enough to find an eSIM for a majority of top holiday destinations worldwide.

Other than the single destination plans, the Switzerland plan is great if you’re traveling around the Alps, as it covers every country in the mountain range. The Europe+ plan covers most of Europe as well as the USA, the UK, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan.

Customer support

Sparks doesn’t offer a live chat feature on its website. The only way to contact the customer support team is by filling out a form on the Contact Us page. Moreover, no customer support team work hours are provided, so it’s unclear when support agents are actually available. This can be frustrating if you experience issues with your eSIM outside of office hours.

You can find an FAQ section on the support page, which provides answers to the most common questions and problems. If you don’t get a quick reply from the support team, try finding answers to your questions there.

Refund policy

The cancellation policy section on Sparks’ Terms and Conditions page is written in somewhat heavy legal terminology. This makes it hard to understand whether or not you’re eligible for a refund. Here’s what it says, translated into human language:

Once you buy your eSIM and scan the activation QR code, your eSIM is considered as used and is no longer refundable. There is no mention of whether or not you can get a refund if you accidentally purchase an eSIM without an eSIM-compatible phone. Make sure your device is compatible with eSIM technology before the purchase to avoid risking your money.

If you activate the eSIM but it doesn’t work due to an issue with the provider’s network, you might still be eligible for a refund. Contact the customer service and provide the full details about the issue. After doing so, the support team will come back to you with a decision of whether or not you can get a refund.

Ease of use

Sparks offers an intuitive app for iOS and Android to make it even easier for you to buy and activate your eSIM, compare data plans, or access any features the provider has to offer. It comes in particularly handy for tracking your data usage, since you can lose connection if you run out of data before your trip ends.

The app itself is conveniently designed, with all the key features accessible with no more than a couple of taps on the screen. You can look at the prices and access the Support section without an account. However, you will have to create one to buy and activate an eSIM.

What happens if I run out of data on my Sparks eSIM?

You will lose internet access as soon as you run out of data on your Sparks eSIM. The only way to get back online is to buy a top-up with more data. You should be back online soon after the purchase is complete.

It’s best to track your data limit and buy additional data before you completely run out. This allows you to stay connected instead of having to look for a free WiFi hotspot just to buy more data on your eSIM.

If you don’t want to constantly track your data usage, you can buy an unlimited data eSIM from Holafly instead. All Holafly plans include unlimited data. All you need to do is pick the destination, plan duration, and enjoy non-stop connection. No matter how much data you use.

Sparks eSIM pros and cons

Still not sure if a Sparks eSIM is right for you? Let’s quickly recap everything that we talked about above by highlighting some of the main pros and cons of the service.

Pros Cons ❌
Affordable fixed-data plansNo unlimited data plans
Intuitive apps for iOS and AndroidNo live chat customer support
Long validity periods on all plansUnclear customer support availability times
No refunds on activated plans
Fewer destinations than with most eSIM providers

All in all, Sparks is a viable eSIM option if you can find a suitable plan. That said, you need to be aware of its limited customer support options and its refund policy before making a purchase.

Choose peace of mind with Holafly

If you don’t want to spend your holiday tracking your data usage or waiting for a reply from the customer support team, Holafly might be the best option for you. Not only do all Holafly plans include unlimited data, but you also get 24/7 customer support and up to 1 GB of data sharing.

There are also plenty of regional plans, making it a perfect choice for multi-country trips. Simply choose the plan that covers every destination you’ll be visiting and enjoy having a non-stop internet connection.
