What is a Motorola eSIM?

Where can you get an eSIM for Motorola?

The availability of eSIM support depends on your country of residence. Here are some of the main providers:

  • Australia: AGL, amaysim, Boost Mobile, Everyday Mobile, Exetel, felix Mobile, iiNet, Kogan Mobile, Lebara, Lyca Mobile, MATE, More, Optus, SpinTel, Southern Phone, Superloop, Tangerine, Telstra, TPG, Vodafone AU, and Yomojo
  • Canada: Bell, Fido, Freedom Mobile, Koodo, Public Mobile, Telus, and Rogers
  • UK: EE, Giffgaff, iD Mobile, Lyca Mobile, O2, Tesco Mobile, Three, and Vodafone
  • USA: AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon

You can usually request an eSIM from these providers through their website, app, or customer service. An eSIM works just like a physical SIM but in digital form.

Keep in mind, however, that local provider eSIMs won’t save you from roaming charges when you travel abroad. That’s where international eSIMs such as Holafly come in. With these, you can skip the unexpected bills—simply choose a plan online, pay upfront, and enjoy hassle-free connectivity throughout your trip.

How to add an eSIM to a Motorola phone

Setting up an eSIM on a Motorola phone is quick and easy, but it does depend on your device, country, and carrier. If you don’t see an Add eSIM or Manage eSIM option in your settings, your phone or carrier may not support eSIM yet.

Before you start, make sure:

  • Your Motorola model supports eSIM and is carrier-unlocked.
  • You’re connected to a stable Wi-Fi network.
  • You have your activation code or QR code from your provider ready.

You can add an eSIM to your Motorola in two ways: by scanning a QR code or by entering the details manually.

1. Scanning a QR Code

The easiest method is scanning a QR code from your carrier:

  1. Open Settings → Network & Internet → SIMs.
  2. Tap Add eSIM.
  3. Scan the QR code provided by your carrier.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete activation.
  5. (Optional) Turn off Automatically enable eSIM if you want to activate it later, for example when you reach your destination.
  6. Tap Add to activate the eSIM when ready.

Tip: If you can’t scan the QR code directly, save it as a photo, then select Choose from Gallery to scan the image.

2. Manually installing your eSIM

If scanning the QR code isn’t possible, you can add the eSIM manually:

  1. Tap Enter Activation Code Manually.
  2. Enter the code from your carrier, including the “LPA:” prefix if provided.
  3. Select Add and turn off Automatically enable eSIM (optional) if you want to activate it later, for example when you reach your destination.
  4. Tap Add again and activate the eSIM when ready.

Note: Activation issues may occur if the SM-DP+ address is missing. This is a secure server address required to download and install your eSIM profile. Check our detailed guide for activating a Motorola eSIM without a QR code: What is SM-DP+ address?

How to activate an eSIM on a Motorola phone

Once you’ve installed the eSIM on your Motorola phone, activating it only takes a few steps.

  1. Open Settings > Network & Internet > SIMs.
  2. Choose which line you want to use for mobile data, calls, and texts.

Tip: If you’re using more than one SIM (eSIM + physical SIM or multiple eSIMs), double-check that your default line for data, calls, and texts is set correctly.

How to deactivate or remove an eSIM on Motorola

  1. Go to Settings → Network & Internet → SIMs.
  2. Select the eSIM you want to deactivate.
  3. Toggle Enable/Disable to temporarily deactivate it.
  4. To remove the eSIM completely, select Delete. You can reinstall it later using the original QR code or activation code.

How to transfer an eSIM to another device

Switching devices and want to transfer your digital SIM? Follow these steps:

  1. Remove the eSIM from the old device via Settings.
  2. Restart your device.
  3. Request a new QR code from your provider or international vendor.
  4. Follow the activation steps above.

Is a Motorola eSIM worth it?

Absolutely—an eSIM gives you flexibility and convenience, especially if you travel often or need to manage multiple numbers. With a Motorola eSIM phone, such as the Motorola Edge 50 Pro or Motorola Razr, you can stay connected without relying on a physical SIM card. That means no more juggling tiny SIMs or worrying about losing them.

Before you buy, make sure both your device and mobile provider support eSIM. If you’re traveling abroad, providers like Holafly make it even easier by offering international eSIMs with unlimited data. You can also share your connection with other devices or fellow travelers, so you’ll always have reliable internet on the go.

What other benefits does Holafly offer?
