Every die-hard NFL fan has dreamed of it, packing your jersey, jumping on a plane, and following your team from coast to coast all season long. Living the ultimate road trip. Every touchdown, every heartbreak, every overpriced hot dog.

But let’s be honest, that dream comes with a pretty hefty price tag.

To find out what it really costs to live like an NFL superfan, the Holafly research team crunched the numbers on how much fans would spend to see every away game this season. We added it all up, flights, hotel stays, game tickets, beers, and those must-have stadium hot dogs, to find out which fanbases are paying top dollar for their loyalty, and which ones are getting away with a bargain.

The Most Expensive Teams to follow

A graphic showing the most expensive NFL teams to follow on the road

1. Green Bay Packers

Following the Packers on the road this season will set fans back more than $13,500 in total. That’s over $1,500 per game. From the frigid tundra of Lambeau to Pittsburgh’s steel city, Green Bay fans are travelling far and wide to keep the faith. Even their “cheapest” road trip to New York costs north of $700.

2. Philadelphia Eagles

Eagles fans are some of the loudest in the league, and apparently some of the most committed because following Philly away costs a huge $13,334. Between long-haul trips, sold-out stadiums, and sky-high ticket prices, the Birds’ faithful are putting their money where their mouths are.

3. New England Patriots

Even post-Brady, Pats Nation is travelling in style. With average costs of $1,591 per game, New England ranks third overall. Trips down to Florida and out to the Midwest make it an expensive itinerary, but for the fans who lived through six Super Bowl wins, it’s all part of the dynasty lifestyle.

4. Chicago Bears

It’s been a rough few seasons for the Bears, but that hasn’t stopped their fans from showing up in force and paying dearly for it. A full season of away games will cost Chicago supporters around $12,662, with divisional rivals like the Packers driving those prices sky-high.

5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Tom Brady may be gone, but the Bucs’ fanbase is still rolling deep. Following Tampa Bay away will cost fans roughly $12,485, thanks to cross-country flights and premium stadium prices. It’s the price you pay for palm trees, sunshine, and one of the NFL’s most scenic road trips.

Just behind the top five are the 49ers, Bengals, Lions, Giants, and Ravens, all with totals between $11,600 and $12,400. In other words, being a loyal fan in these cities comes with a luxury price tag.

The most budget-friendly teams to follow on the road

1. Denver Broncos

Broncos Country, you’ve got something to celebrate. At just over $8,000, Denver fans have the cheapest road season in the league. Despite those mountain miles, affordable hotels and tickets keep costs in check, meaning fans can “Ride” a little easier this year.

2. Houston Texans

Houston, we don’t have a problem, at least not with your travel budget. The Texans come in second cheapest at $8,461, thanks to short regional hops and good-value destinations like Los Angeles and Seattle.

3. Tennessee Titans

At $8,596, the Titans are another great value for traveling fans. Most games are within a few hours’ flight, and their priciest trip, to Denver, still comes in at less than many teams’ average game costs.

4. New York Jets

For long-suffering Jets fans, here’s a win: it’s cheap to follow your team. A full away season costs around $8,600, with short East Coast flights and more affordable hotel prices helping to soften the blow of another rebuild year.

5. Los Angeles Rams

The Rams round out the top five cheapest at $8,791. Despite being based in one of the priciest cities in America, the team benefits from shorter West Coast trips, and fans can enjoy some sunshine without breaking the bank.

The rest of the top ten, Commanders, Chargers, Raiders, Falcons, and Browns, all fall under the $9,200 mark, showing that a full season on the road doesn’t have to mean draining your life savings.

Of course, it’s not just about money, it’s about miles.

When it comes to air miles, Seattle Seahawks fans are the ultimate travelers, clocking an incredible 32,094 miles if they flew to every away game this season. The 49ers, Chargers, and Rams also spend plenty of time in the air thanks to their West Coast geography.

Meanwhile, fans of the Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers barely top 8,000 miles all season, a gentle jog compared to Seattle’s marathon schedule.

The NFL isn’t just America’s game anymore, it’s a global spectacle. With regular season games now taking place in London, Munich, and São Paulo, the idea of an “away day” has gone international.

Top Tips for Football Fans on the Road

1. Plan for Time Zone Differences

Adjust your watch or phone to the local time zone, some places might be one hour ahead or behind. This helps you avoid missing match times, transport schedules, or meetups.

2. Stay Prepared and Connected

Don’t leave your Airbnb or hotel without making sure your phone is fully charged and your internet is working properly. For fans brave enough to take their support overseas, the last thing you want is a huge roaming bill when you land. Make sure to install your travel eSIM before departing, this allows you to stay connected abroad without a physical SIM card or roaming fees. You can use maps, stream highlights at the airport, or share photos from the stands, all with secure connectivity and no extra data charges.

3. Use Public Transport or Walk

Stadium areas often have limited parking. Public transport is usually the best way to get around, especially on match days when services are increased. Get a transport card if you can, or plan to walk from nearby stops, it can save time and hassle.

4. Pack Smart and Light

It might seem obvious, but it’s worth saying: pack only what you need. Bring a poncho or light raincoat (just in case), comfortable shoes, a portable charger, your ID, tickets, and any essentials. A light bag makes moving through crowds way easier.

5. Stay Hydrated and Energized

You’ll likely be on your feet for hours, so bring a water bottle, a snack or two, and maybe some face paint to show your team spirit. And of course, don’t forget to try the local beer and grab a good hot dog while you’re there!

Methodology

To uncover the true cost of being an NFL road warrior, Holafly analyzed the expenses fans would face if they followed their team to every away game this season.

  • Flights: Round-trip flight costs between each team’s home city and their away destinations were sourced using average economy-class prices from Kayak.
  • Hotels: Accommodation costs are based on the average price of a two-night stay in the host city during the game weekend, calculated from available listings on Expedia.
  • Tickets: Average ticket prices for each stadium were taken from Vivid Seats, reflecting current market rates for regular-season matchups.
  • Food and Drink: The cost of a beer and hot dog at each stadium was gathered from publicly available stadium-by-stadium pricing data to capture typical gameday expenses.

Fixtures: Team schedules and away game locations were taken directly from ESPN’s official fixture list for the current NFL season.
