The Holafly vs. MobiMatter comparison isn’t as straightforward as one might think. Instead of comparing two eSIM providers, it’s a comparison of a provider and a marketplace. Follow along for an in-depth comparison of the data plans and features that you will find with Holafly and MobiMatter.

Holafly vs. MobiMatter

Holafly vs. MobiMatter overview

Before we dive deep into comparing what Holafly and MobiMatter have to offer, let’s take a quick look at how they compare in some of the main categories for an eSIM service.

As you can see, both are fairly similar at surface level. And that’s exactly why we’ve got to dig a bit deeper to truly distinguish the differences between the two.

Plans and pricing

Holafly has eSIM plans for 200+ destinations worldwide, each offering unlimited data and a flexible selection of plan durations. On top of that, there are also regional plans that cover multiple countries in a chosen region and a global eSIM plan with coverage in 113 destinations. Most importantly, all Holafly plans are unique to Holafly only.

MobiMatter doesn’t have its own plans. Instead, it acts as a third-party reseller offering eSIM deals from more than 10 different providers in 200+ destinations. This results in nearly every single destination having at least 50 different plans to choose from. Many of them offer nearly identical data limits, simply coming from different providers.

For example, Holafly’s eSIM for the USA starts at $6.90 for one day of unlimited data and goes up to $139.90 for 90 days. You can choose any number of days from 1 to 90 for your plan, with the value for money increasing with the longer plans. The 90-day plan works out at $1.55/day for unlimited data.

The offers for USA eSIMs that you’ll find on MobiMatter range from $3.49 for 1 GB of data to $75.99 for 100 GB. Notably, there are no unlimited data plans for the USA available on MobiMatter.

The situation is fairly similar in all destinations. Holafly includes unlimited data in all destinations, with the pricing being very similar for most of them. There are some unlimited data plans on MobiMatter, but they’re few and far between. The platform is mostly focused on fixed-data deals at competitive prices.

Both Holafly and MobiMatter offer data-only plans, which means no SMS messages or phone calls are available. That said, you can use VoIP services such as Messenger, WhatsApp, or FaceTime to make calls and send messages.

Subscription options

Whether you’re a digital nomad or a frequent traveler, you might want to have reliable internet access for longer than just a few months. Holafly offers a solution with Holafly Connect — a monthly subscription with coverage in 170+ destinations.

The options include a 10 GB plan for $39.90/month, 25 GB for $49.90/month, or unlimited data for $64.90/month. Holafly Connect plans don’t require any contracts or commitments, so you can simply use the service for as long as you need and cancel anytime, making it one of the best eSIM deals for long-term travelers.

There are no subscription offers available on MobiMatter. There are plans with a duration of up to a year, but they don’t offer much data and are only suitable for sporadic use.

Coverage

Both Holafly and MobiMatter offer local eSIM plans for 200+ destinations as well as regional and global plans. This ensures that you’ll be able to stay connected pretty much anywhere in the world, regardless of which option you choose.

Holafly has a global plan and regional plans for North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia, Africa, the Middle East, the Caribbean, and Oceania.

Mobimatter offers global plans by Airalo, eSIMGo, and Sparks. There are hundreds of different regional plans available on the platform, ranging from those covering only a few countries to combining all of Europe and Asia into a single plan.

Finding the right one for you can be tricky, though, as there’s no single page with all regional plans on the MobiMatter shop, so you have to manually filter it by the country or region you plan to visit.

Speed

Both Holafly and MobiMatter offer speeds up to 5G with their eSIM plans. Notably, Holafly includes 5G coverage with all its eSIM plans, while the coverage you get from MobiMatter depends on the plan you choose.

Plans that include 5G coverage will connect to 5G networks wherever they’re available. Typically, you’ll get 5G speeds in cities, suburbs, and any other densely populated areas. If you decide to explore away from the crowds, expect to get 4G or even 3G speeds, even if your plan includes 5G coverage.

Ease of use

You can get dedicated apps on iOS or Android from both providers. This makes it easy to buy and activate your eSIM, as well as track data consumption on your mobile phone. Data tracking is particularly important if you get one of MobiMatter’s limited data plans since you don’t want to run out of data and lose connection during your trip.

Both MobiMatter and Holafly apps have all their eSIM plans displayed at the home screen, with key features such as your current eSIMs, customer support, and profile settings no more than a couple of clicks away.

You can buy an eSIM on the Holafly app without creating an account, which makes buying an eSIM easier and quicker when you’re in a rush. That said, you might want to get an account to take part in Holafly’s loyalty program.

With MobiMatter, new customers must create an account to get an eSIM. All existing customers must be logged in to make purchases or track their eSIMs.

Customer support

Both Holafly and MobiMatter offer 24/7 customer support. However, the services are quite different.

With Holafly, you can contact support agents via live chat, WhatsApp, or email. Knowledgeable agents are always ready to provide help or answer general questions in multiple languages.

MobiMatter only provides customer support via an email ticketing system. There’s no live chat option available, possibly because MobiMatter doesn’t own the eSIMs on the marketplace, so if there’s an issue with an eSIM sold on MobiMatter, they might need to contact the actual eSIM service provider before they can help you.

Refund policy

Holafly’s refund policy guarantees a full refund for any plans that you haven’t activated or accidental purchases, including when you buy an eSIM without having an eSIM-compatible phone. Full or partial refunds are available if you encounter critical issues with the service after starting to use your eSIM.

MobiMatter follows the refund policies of the operators whose eSIMs have been sold on the marketplace. In general, refunds are available for unused plans or if you encounter an issue with the eSIM after starting to use the service. However, the final decision for issuing a refund is still made by the eSIM provider selling the service, not the MobiMatter marketplace.

Holafly vs. MobiMatter: Which one’s better?

At the end of the day, there’s no single answer to which is better. First of all, Holafly is an eSIM provider, while MobiMatter is an eSIM marketplace that sells eSIMs from other providers. So, the services are inherently different.

That said, the best eSIM for you will be the one that suits your needs. If you need unlimited data, Holafly offers far more options and more flexible plan choices. If you need a fixed-data plan, MobiMatter has plenty of eSIM options to choose from. Before you make your decision, here’s a quick refresher on how they stack up in every category in this comparison.
