In March 2024, Revolut launched its eSIM service, offering mobile data plans in 100+ countries worldwide. The finance app previously appealed to travelers with affordable travel insurance and global ATM withdrawals. Adding an eSIM into the mix is Revolut’s attempt to take it one step closer to being a one-stop shop for all things you need when traveling.

What is the Revolut eSIM?
Revolut eSIM is a data-only eSIM service that you can buy on the Revolut app for near-instant access to mobile data abroad. Since it’s a digital service, you don’t need a physical SIM card and can set it all up in just a few taps.
How does it work?
Instead of creating its own mobile network from scratch, Revolut partnered with 1GLOBAL for the eSIM service. This means you’re getting access to a reputable, widespread mobile network with custom pricing and plans from Revolut.
To set it up, you need an eSIM-compatible phone and a Revolut app with an active account. To get your plan, tap the RevPoints button on the bottom menu, choose the eSIM option, and select a local, regional, or global data plan that suits your needs. Note: Although the eSIM is located in the app’s rewards area, customers currently don’t receive any extra bonuses from buying the eSIM.

Network coverage
As mentioned earlier, Revolut uses the 1GLOBAL network and provides coverage in 100+ countries spread across Europe, Asia, Africa, North America, and Latin America. On top of local plans, you can also get regional plans for each continent or a global data plan that includes 108 countries.
The regional and global plans are a great choice if you’re going to be traveling to multiple countries on the same trip, as they allow you to save money and effort on getting a separate plan every time you cross a border.
Plans and pricing
Both the pricing and the amount of data you can choose changes depending on your country or region of choice.
All locations have a 1 GB plan that’s valid for 7 days. They also all feature 3 GB, 5 GB, 10 GB, and 20 GB plans valid for 30 days. Some locations also offer 50 GB and 100 GB options, both valid for 60 days.
There are no unlimited data plans available with Revolut, so take a minute to consider how much data you might need for your trip. If you do run out, you can top-up the plan with more data, which, of course, will cost extra.

Key features
The eSIM comes as a part of Revolut’s main app. This has its pros and cons. Since the eSIM is connected to your Revolut account, the payment process is super simple, on top of that, you get to use services like travel insurance, and even get deals on airport lounges and flights.
On the other hand, tracking your data usage isn’t as comfortable as it is on dedicated eSIM apps. You also must be a Revolut customer to get the eSIM. This means setting up an account, complete with your banking details, to get the eSIM, even if you don’t intend to use any other services offered by Revolut.
Other than that, Revolut offers the main things you’d expect from an eSIM service. These include data top-ups if your plan runs out and data sharing via hotspot, allowing you to connect multiple devices at once.
One thing worth mentioning is that all Revolut eSIM plans become active as soon as you buy them. Many other eSIM providers allow you to buy the plan in advance and activate it when you need it.
