Until January 31, 2021, Britons were able to enter countries in the European Union and others, thanks to international agreements and alliances. However, after the famous “Brexit”, Britons are once again required to present a valid passport at the port of entry to Europe. Currently, the only territories where UK citizens can travel without a passport are the following overseas dependencies of the British crown: Anguilla, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Falkland Islands GIbraltar, Monserrat, Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha, Akrotiri and Dhekelia and Turks and Caicos Islands.

Other than the previously mentioned territories, British citizens and residents must have a valid passport, generally for at least 6 months, for their travels to other countries. The UK doesn’t currently have any other passport-free or freedom of movement treaties or agreements. Examples of these are MercoSur in South America and the EU Single Market in Europe.
