Whether it’s your first time, or you’re a return visitor, here’s the perfect itinerary for one of the most beautiful cities in Europe to visit. Day one is all about exploring the city’s iconic landmarks and ticking things off from your list of things to do in Prague. If you’re arriving via Václav Havel Airport Prague, drop your bags at your hotel, head straight out again, and start exploring!

Morning

When thinking about how many days in Prague to spend, it helps to break down each day into themes; national galleries or walking tours can be one day, and visits to the castle district and a beautiful park the next.

On your first day, head to Old Town Square. Arrive at the Old Town Hall before 9 am to see the Astronomical Clock show. Witness its intricate mechanical figures, then wander to the towering Church of Our Lady before Týn and grab a trdelník (local sweet pastry) from a street vendor. This efficient start kicks off your Prague itinerary nicely.

Afternoon

After the morning sights, head directly to the Charles Bridge. Take your time to take in its impressive 30 Baroque statues and pause for photos of Prague Castle. Then, cross to the Lesser Town (Malá Strana) side, where you’ll find the vibrant Lennon Wall on Velkopřevorské náměstí. Afterwards, continue into Malá Strana to see St. Nicholas Church, noting its grand Baroque dome and frescoes.

Evening

As the day winds down, head to dinner and choose a traditional Czech restaurant in the Lesser Town. Try vepřo knedlo zelo or svíčková (traditional dumplings and a marinated beef dish). Return to the Charles Bridge after for sunset views over the Vltava River, or take a relaxing Vltava River cruise (1-2 hours) from near the Čech Bridge for amazing landmark views of Prague.

Day 2: Castle grandeur and royal history

Day two is dedicated to exploring the immense Prague Castle complex. This can help you further understand how many days you need to see Prague’s significant historical and political center.

Now that you’ve explored some of Prague’s national monuments and vibrant Old Town, day two of your Prague itinerary is about delving deeper into its imperial past. Today, get ready to explore one of Prague’s main sites, a cornerstone if you’re wondering about Prague’s significant royal history.

Morning

Arrive early at Prague Castle (ideally by 9 AM) and enter near Hradčany Square. Purchase a Circuit B ticket, which grants access to St. Vitus Cathedral, the Old Royal Palace, St. George’s Basilica, and Golden Lane. Start with St. Vitus Cathedral and allow at least an hour to take in its beautiful stained-glass windows, like Alfons Mucha’s. If you have the energy afterwards, climb the Great South Tower to enjoy panoramic city views.

Afternoon

Continue exploring the castle grounds and walk through the Old Royal Palace to see Vladislav Hall. Next, visit St. George’s Basilica, a wonderfully preserved Romanesque basilica. Finally, discover Golden Lane, a picturesque street of small colorful houses and check out the quaint craft and souvenir shops. Finally, take a leisurely stroll through the Royal Garden or the South Gardens (open seasonally) for the calming city views.

Evening

After walking and sightseeing, relax at a charming café or traditional pub in the Lesser Town. Try U Medvidku (Na Perštýně 7) for an authentic Czech pub for local brews. For dinner, head to Malostranské náměst, or attend a classical music concert in a Prague church, like St. Nicholas Church or St. George’s Basilica. Performances usually start around 7 PM and last about an hour.

Day 3: Jewish quarter and new town discoveries

With the major historical sites covered, day three of your Prague itinerary offers a different perspective on the city’s heritage. Immerse yourself in Prague’s poignant Jewish Quarter before changing gears and heading to the bustling and modern New Town. This day adds important cultural layers to your trip and is an important addition when considering how many days to spend in Prague.

Morning

Dedicate your morning to visiting the Jewish Quarter (Josefov). Buy a combined ticket from the Jewish Museum to take full advantage of the site and start with the Old Jewish Cemetery, a unique site with layered graves. Then, visit the Old-New Synagogue, one of Europe’s oldest active synagogues. Continue to the Pinkas Synagogue, a memorial to Holocaust victims with names inscribed on the walls. Finally, head to the Spanish Synagogue, which is known for its stunning Moorish Revival interior.

Afternoon

For the afternoon’s activities, head to New Town (Nové Město) and start at Wenceslas Square, a long and beautiful boulevard. Observe the St. Wenceslas monument at the top and take some memorable photos. From Wenceslas Square, head towards the Powder Tower (Prašná brána), one of Prague’s original city gates. Next, find the Municipal House (Obecní dům). This Art Nouveau building has mosaics and amazing interiors where you can grab coffee.

Evening

Explore the delicious food scene to uncover some hidden gems in the New Town for dinner. Find options from Czech bistros to international cuisine around Jungmannovo náměstí or Wenceslas Square. For some great entertainment, consider a Black Light Theatre performance, a non-verbal show that uses lighting to create illusions, and a true intro to Czech culture. Popular venues include the Image Theatre (Národní 25) or Ta Fantastika (Karlova 8), and shows usually last 1.5 hours.

Day 4: Prague’s panoramic vistas

While three days in Prague can be enough, if you’re still thinking about how many days in Prague you need, day four’s sightseeing plan will have you convinced to stay longer. As your trip winds down, your final day in Prague will focus on seeing breathtaking views and experiencing the city’s contemporary riverside ambience. Make the most of your last hours in this beautiful city with the following activities, ensuring your four days in Prague end with beautiful vistas.

Morning

Start with a visit to Petřín Hill and walk through the gardens, or take the Petřín Funicular from Újezd street. Once at the top, climb the Petřín Lookout Tower, a 63.5-meter (208 ft) steel framework tower. To get in some morning exercise, climb the 299 steps to the observation deck for an unforgettable 360-degree panoramic view of Prague. This is arguably the best vantage point in the city, and one of the best ways to spend your last morning in the city.

Afternoon

After descending from Petřín Hill, make your way to the Dancing House (Tančící dům), also known as ‘Fred and Ginger,’ located on Rašínovo nábřeží. This deconstructivist building offers an excellent architectural contrast, and you can visit the gallery/restaurant on the top floor for stunning city views. Afterwards, walk along the Naplavka, the riverside promenade along the Vltava.

Evening

Enjoy a memorable farewell dinner—head to a restaurant along the river, or one offering traditional Czech cuisine. Many places in Old Town or Lesser Town are charming and play live traditional music. Take a final evening walk through the Old Town Square or across the Charles Bridge.
