Motorola eSIM: How to install and activate it
A Motorola eSIM allows you to connect to a cellular network digitally without using a physical SIM card. This technology is available only on certain newer models within the Razr, Edge, and Moto G series.
You can install an eSIM automatically using the app linked to your data plan, scan a QR code, or enter the details manually, and then activate it by simply turning on the line. Below, you’ll find the step-by-step instructions to get your data up and running in just a few minutes.
Before you install your Motorola eSIM
- Check the full list of Motorola-compatible devices to confirm that your model supports eSIM. You can also dial *#06# on your phone; if an EID number appears, your device is eSIM-compatible.
- Make sure your phone is unlocked so it can connect to plans from different mobile networks.
- Make sure you are connected to a stable WiFi network.
Important: For Global or Regional plans (Europe, South America, Asia, etc.), install your eSIM at most 1 day before your trip. For single-country plans, you can install it days or weeks ahead, as it only activates at your destination.
How to Install an eSIM on a Motorola
There are three ways to install an eSIM on a Motorola device. The quickest option is through the app included with your eSIM, which automates most of the setup process.
You can also install your eSIM using the universal methods with the QR code or manual activation details received. The sections below will guide you through each installation method step by step.
1. Automatic installation via the app
This is the easiest and most modern way to set up your eSIM line. If you are using Holafly, download the app from the Play Store before starting and follow these steps:
- Open the app on your phone → Log in with the email associated with your purchase → Go to Purchases → Tap Install on the eSIM you want to add → Read the Installation tips and tap Got it to continue → Choose Install Automatically → Tap Install eSIM → Then, select Add and Set up to save your new line inside your Motorola’s Mobile Network menu → Once installed, tap Settings if you want to continue with the activation.
2. Install eSIM on Motorola using a QR code
If you received a QR code with your purchase, open it on another device before you begin. If you only have one phone, you can save the QR code to your gallery and select it during setup. Then, follow these steps from your phone’s settings (not through the Camera app):
- Go to Settings → Access Network & Internet → Choose Mobile network → Tap Download new SIM → Choose Set up an eSIM → Scan your QR code or tap the Scan from photo text link below to choose it from your gallery → Then, tap on the Set up Button → Once added, tap Settings to turn on the toggle to activate your new eSIM line.
3. Install eSIM on Motorola using manual codes:
If your QR code won’t scan, you can copy the activation code from your confirmation email and paste it directly into your phone’s settings by following the steps below:
- Go to Settings → Access Network & Internet → Choose Mobile network → Tap Download new SIM → Choose Set up an eSIM.
- Tap on“Try these troubleshooting steps” → Select “Enter activation code” → Paste the manual code you received (including LPA and the colons “:”) → Tap Next → Then, select the Set up Button → And finally, tap Settings if you want to continue with the activation.
How to activate an eSIM on Motorola
Once your eSIM is installed, you can activate it from your Motorola’s settings by turning on the line and selecting it for mobile data. If you’re using a travel eSIM, wait until you arrive at your destination before turning it on to avoid activating your plan too early.
Follow the steps below to complete the activation.
- Go to Settings → Select Network & internet → Tap on Mobile network → Disable the other SIMs to avoid charges from your carrier (Your personal SIMs/eSIMs) → Select your newly installed eSIM → Then, turn on the Use SIM switch and also enable Roaming if you are using a travel eSIM.
Troubleshooting Tips:
During Installation
If your Motorola shows an error while installing the eSIM, don’t worry. Sometimes the eSIM is successfully added even if the setup process doesn’t finish as expected. Before trying again, check whether it’s already installed:
- On your phone: Go to Settings → Network & internet → Mobile network. Your new eSIM should appear in the Downloaded SIMs section, usually with the name assigned during setup.
- In the App: Check your eSIM status. If it says “eSIM Installed – Ready to use,” you’re ready to move on to activation.
Using your mobile data
If your connection doesn’t start immediately, wait a few minutes while your Motorola connects to a local network. If you’re still offline, try selecting a network manually.
Important: Don’t remove your eSIM. Once deleted, it can’t be installed again, and you won’t be able to use that data plan.
