Using an eSIM is the best way to stay connected while traveling in Europe. It’s simple, convenient, and affordable. Just as importantly, you can get a plan that covers the entire continent, so you won’t need to get a new eSIM every time you move to a different country.

However, choosing the best eSIM isn’t always easy, as plenty of providers offer unique plans, pricing, and features. Let us help you make your decision as we take an in-depth look at the best eSIMs for Europe and what they have to offer.

Why should I get an eSIM for Europe?

If you’re not yet sold on the idea of buying an eSIM while planning your next trip to Europe, here are a few reasons why you should:

  • Immediate delivery. Since eSIMs are completely digital, your eSIM will be delivered to your email immediately after purchase.
  • Ideal for travelers. eSIMs can be bought and activated anywhere, with plenty of different plans to choose from.
  • Quick and easy to activate. Simply buy your eSIM, scan the QR code, and get connected in a matter of minutes.
  • Optimal connection everywhere in Europe. If you buy a multi-country eSIM plan for Europe, your eSIM automatically connects to the best available network whenever you cross an international border.

All in all, eSIMs are more convenient and cheaper than other popular alternatives such as pocket WiFi or data roaming in Europe

Which Is the Best eSIM for Europe?

Unfortunately, there’s no single answer to what the best eSIM for Europe is. That’s because it depends on your personal needs, not just what the provider has to offer. Price, data limits, and coverage are all important factors to consider when picking out the right eSIM for you.

Let’s take a quick look at how some of the top eSIM providers for Europe compare before diving deeper into what you can get from each.

1. Holafly — best eSIM for unlimited data

Holafly is widely considered to be the best unlimited data eSIM for Europe because it includes unlimited data with all its plans and offers flexible plan durations. You can choose any number of days in a range of 1 to 90, which means you don’t end up paying extra for any days you don’t need.

Purchasing a Holafly eSIM card takes seconds. Simply choose your destination and the number of days you want your eSIM card to last, then complete the payment process. You’ll get your QR code as soon as the payment goes through. Scan it and follow the prompts to set up your eSIM within minutes.

Holafly plans and pricing

Needless to say, price is an important factor when choosing any service. While Holafly may not have the cheapest plans on this list, it offers some of the best value for money, considering that every plan includes unlimited data and up to 1 GB of data sharing daily.

The exact price differs depending on the number of days you pick, but here are some of the most popular options:

  • 1 day of unlimited data for $6.90
  • 5 days of unlimited data for $20.90 ($4.18/day)
  • 10 days of unlimited data for $36.90 ($3.69/day)
  • 15 days of unlimited data for $50.90 ($3.39/day)
  • 30 days of unlimited data for $74.90 ($2.50/day)
  • 90 days of unlimited data for $139.90 ($1.55/day)

Holafly coverage

Many eSIM providers offer European eSIM plans that promise coverage in the entire continent. However, the actual coverage offered by these plans differs, with some plans missing coverage in quite a few European countries. Thankfully, this is not the case with Holafly, as it covers more than 40 countries throughout Europe.

  • Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Northern Cyprus, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Norway, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, United Kingdom, Czech Republic, Romania, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine, Turkey, Liechtenstein, Gibraltar, Macedonia, Serbia, Andorra, Monaco, and Isle of Man.

If you’re only traveling to a single country in Europe, Holafly has single-destination plans for all of the countries above and some that aren’t on the list. All single-destination plans also include unlimited data, so you never have to worry about losing connection with Holafly.

Holafly customer support and refund policy

Holafly offers 24/7 live chat support in multiple languages, which ensures that you’ll always get help in case you encounter any issues. On top of chatting with knowledgeable support agents via live chat, email, or WhatsApp, you can also browse an extensive FAQ section where you’ll find answers to the most common questions.

On top of that, Holafly has a super-flexible refund policy, which ensures that you don’t lose your money if you can’t activate the service or encounter major issues while using it.

Holafly pros and cons

Pros of Holafly Europe eSIM

  • Unlimited data with all plans.
  • Up to 1 GB of data sharing daily
  • Flexible plan durations.
  • Intuitive apps for iOS and Android
  • Covers more than 40 European countries with a single plan.

Cons of Holafly eSIM for Europe

  • Data-only plans, no calls or SMS messages.
  • Some carriers may reserve the right to apply a Fair Usage Policy.

2. MTX Connect

MTX Connect was founded in 2019, and it mostly prioritizes European and global eSIM plans with very limited single-destination plan choices. While the plan choices are limited, it still gives you a solid option for staying connected.

MTX Connect plans and pricing

Currently, MTX Connect has two different data plans for Europe, as well as a plan dedicated solely to the Alps region.

  • 2 GB for 7 days for €7 (~$7.30).
  • 10 GB for 30 days for €30 (~$31.20).
  • 2 GB For 7 days in the Alps for €5 (~$5.20).

The Europe plans offer coverage in 35 countries within the continent, while the Alps plan covers Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Germany, France, Liechtenstein, and Slovenia. It’s worth noting that the listed prices don’t include taxes, so you will be charged VAT on top of the plan price at checkout.

MTX Connect app

MTX Connect has dedicated apps for iOS and Android with a fairly intuitive interface that makes it easy to buy, track, and manage your eSIMs. This comes in particularly handy, since MTX Connect doesn’t have any unlimited data plans, so you’ll want to keep an eye on how much data you’re using to avoid running out and losing connection.

MTX Connect customer support and refund policy

There is a 24/7 live chat feature available with MTX Connect, though their Contact Us page states that customer support is only available during business hours CET time, so expect longer response times outside of business hours. Customer support is also available via email and phone calls.

Their refund policy is a bigger issue, though. The company’s Terms and Conditions clearly state that there are no refunds, which includes plans that haven’t been activated yet. Though there are user reports of them getting a refund from the company, it’s not something you’re guaranteed to get, even if the service fails to work properly.

MTX Connect pros and cons

Pros of MTX Connect eSIM

  • You have several payment methods, including AliPay and PayPal.
  • You can buy a SIM card when your phone is incompatible with eSIM
  • App available on iOS and Android

Cons of MTX Connect eSIM

  • Small plan selection for Europe.
  • Strict refund policy.
  • Phone and email support is only available during business hours CET time.

3. aloSIM

One of the interesting aloSIM features is that they offer packages that fit somewhere between regional and single-country packages. These include plans that cover the Mediterranean, Scandinavia, Eastern Europe, and Western Europe separately, as well as a single eSIM for Europe that combines all of the smaller packages into one.

aloSIM plans and pricing

There are 7 different data packages to choose from with aloSIM’s Europe eSIM, each offering coverage in 35 countries within Europe. All plans include a phone number for calling and texting, with a $1 credit added to the number.

  • 1 GB for 7 days for $5.
  • 2 GB for 15 days for $8.
  • 3 GB for 30 days for $13.
  • 5 GB for 30 days for $20.
  • 10 GB for 30 days for $37.
  • 50 GB for 90 days for $100.
  • 100 GB for 180 days for $185.

The low-data plans are some of the most affordable on this list, making it a great choice if you’re just looking for a way to stay connected without using too much data

The pricing for its other regional plans in Europe, such as the Eastern European or Scandinavian plans, is even more affordable. These plans only cover a few countries, but if they include every country you plan to visit, it’s well worth getting a regional plan instead of one that covers the entire continent.

aloSIM customer support and refund policy

aloSIM offers 24/7 customer support via live chat and has a fairly detailed knowledge base with answers to the most common questions. However, there are no options to contact customer support via email, phone call, or WhatsApp.

Thankfully, aloSIM has a fairly flexible refund policy. It offers refunds if you accidentally purchased an eSIM without having a compatible device or if the service doesn’t work as intended. To get a refund, you’ll need to contact customer support within 30 days of purchase and provide an original purchase receipt.

aloSIM pros and cons

Pros of aloSIM eSIM

  • A phone number for calls and messages.
  • Many regional plans within Europe.
  • Apps for iOS and Android.
  • Flexible refund policy.
  • 24/7 customer support.

Cons of aloSIM eSIM

  • No unlimited data plans.

4. Ubigi

Ubigi is yet another viable eSIM option for Europe with regional and single-destination plans to choose from.

Ubigi plans and pricing

Navigating Ubigi’s plan selection can be an overwhelming experience. You are hit with every local and regional plan available in a single, long list that takes a solid finger exercise to scroll through.

There are 7 different Europe eSIM plans to choose from:

  • 500 MB for 1 day for $2
  • 3 GB for 30 days for $9
  • 10 GB for 7 days for $15
  • 10 GB for 30 days for $18
  • Unlimited data for 7 days for $28
  • 25 GB for 30 days for $36
  • 50 GB for 30 days for $66

The base Europe plan covers 35 countries, with the Europe Extended plan including a few more that are outside of the EU but fit within mainland Europe. There are also separate plans for Eastern Europe, as well as Scandinavian and Baltic countries.

Ubigi customer service and refund policy

The Ubigi website has an FAQ section and a Troubleshooting guide for self-help. No customer support work hours are stated anywhere. If you want to contact a support agent, your best bet is filling out a form on the support section of Ubigi’s website.

Live chat with an AI bot is available, and you might get connected to a real agent through it, but there’s quite a lot of AI-bot conversations to go through first.

When it comes to refunds, Ubigi doesn’t grant refunds for any plans that have been activated, and you won’t get your money back if you accidentally purchased an eSIM without an eSIM-compatible device. The only way to get a refund is if the service doesn’t work for you at all. You’ll have to file for a refund within 15 days of purchase to be eligible for a refund.

Ubigi pros and cons

Pros of Ubigi eSIM

  • Local, regional, and continent-wide plans to choose from.
  • App for iOS and Android.
  • Both unlimited and fixed data plans available.

Cons of Ubigi eSIM

  • Overwhelming selection of plans.
  • The website can be a bit hard to navigate.
  • No 24/7 live chat.
  • Strict refund policy.

5. Bouygues

Bouygues Telecom started its journey in the telecommunications game by selling physical SIM cards for travel. In recent years, they added eSIM technology to their offer, so now you can buy both physical SIM cards and eSIMs for Europe on their website.

Bouygues plans and pricing

Looking at the selection of Bouygues eSIm plans for Europe, it’s clear that they still pay a lot of attention to their other services. There are only two Europe eSIM plans to choose from, though both offer generous data limits and a stable internet connection in 52 countries and regions in Europe.

  • My European eSIM – 30 GB – 30 days – €29.90 (~$31)
  • My European eSIM – 60 GB – 30 days – €49.90 (~$52)

As it stands, there are no Bouygues mobile apps available, so you’ll have to buy, activate, and manage your eSIMs through the website.

Bouygues customer support and refund policy

You can contact Bouygues through a live chat on their website, email, or phone number. That said, there are no specified working hours, and you may not get an answer outside of office hours.

There is no separate refund policy for Bouygues eSIMs. The company does state that refunds are possible, but the exact details aren’t specified, which means that each refund may be handled on a case-by-case basis.

Bouygues pros and cons

Pros of Bouygues eSIM

  • Generous data limits on eSIMs.
  • Coverage in the entire continent.

Cons of Bouygues eSIM

  • Only 2 plans available.
  • No unlimited data options.
  • No 24/7 customer support.
  • Unclear refund policy.

6. Maya Mobile

Maya Mobile is a global eSIM provider offering coverage in more than 190 destinations worldwide, including dedicated regional plans for Europe. As you’d expect from a global provider, it has all the basics for user experience, such as dedicated apps for iOS and Android and 24/7 customer support.

Maya Mobile plans and pricing

Maya Mobile has both unlimited and fixed data plans for Europe, each offering coverage in 36 countries within the continent. Local single-destination plans are also available for each European country. Each plan has several duration choices, allowing you to adjust your plan to the time you’re going to spend in Europe.

  • Duration: 5, 10, 15, or 30 days.
  • Data: 5 GB, 10 GB, 20 GB, 40 GB, and unlimited.
  • Price: from $7.99 to $48.99 depending on data limit and duration.

It’s worth noting that unlimited plans give you 3 GB of high-speed data, after which your mobile speed is capped at 1 Mbps.

Maya Mobile customer support and refund policy

Maya Mobile offers 24/7 customer support via live chat, an email ticketing system, and a detailed knowledge base where you can find answers to the most common questions. The live chat does start with an AI chatbot, but getting to a real customer agent is fairly easy.

Maya Mobile offers a 100% refund only if your data plan doesn’t work or you can’t install it on your device. This only applies to plans with no data usage. Prepaid eSIM plans using more than 10% of the data allowance or Unlimited eSIM plans consuming over 1 GB are considered successfully activated and are non-refundable.

Maya Mobile pros and cons

Pros of Maya mobile eSIM

  • Fixed and unlimited plans with multiple duration choices.
  • 24/7 live chat support.
  • Apps for iOS and Android

Cons of Maya Mobile eSIM

  • Unlimited plans offer only 3 GB of high-speed data daily.
  • Refunds are only available if you use less than 10% of your data limit.

Best eSIM plans for Europe: Which one should you choose?

We’ve gone through the best eSIMs for Europe and what they have to offer. But before you make your pick, lets refresh your memory on some of the most important points.

Which one offers more mobile data?

Holafly, Maya Mobile, and Ubigi all have unlimited data plans, but only Holafly includes unlimited data in all of its plans for Europe. Other providers, such as MTX Connect and Bouygues, offer an acceptable amount of mobile data, but it’s not unlimited.

Which one offers data sharing?

All providers on the list allow data sharing. But keep in mind that data sharing on limited data plans will quickly deplete your data limit. Holafly offers up to 1 GB of data sharing daily together with its unlimited plans, enough to keep multiple devices connected for basic needs.

Which operators support eSIM in Europe?

Different operators around Europe support eSIM. Some of these are Orange, Vodafone, Movistar, Tim, Magyar Telekom, Three, O2, A1, Telenor, and many others. Most global eSIM providers work with one or several of these providers to ensure the best connection wherever you go.
