T-Mobile postpaid discounts and eligibility

  • 55+: The qualifying account holder must be at least 55; discounted plans have their own line limits.
  • Military: Available to eligible military members, veterans, and qualifying family members. The eligible person must be the primary account holder.
  • First responders: Discounted plans for qualifying first responders; Experience versions also include T-Priority.
  • Students: Student pricing requires qualifying student affiliation.

Benefits depend on the selected tier, and promotion rules can differ from standard plans. You must enroll in a qualifying plan and verify your eligibility to receive the discount.

Older Go5G, Magenta, and ONE plans are outside the current advertised lineup; existing customers should check their account terms before switching.

How much a T-Mobile postpaid plan really costs

T-Mobile’s advertised rates include an eligible AutoPay discount, but your line count, taxes, fees, and phone payments all affect the final bill.

Number of linesMonthly cost per line
1 line$50-100
2 lines$40-85
3 lines$35-72
4 lines$30-65

Standard per-line rates with AutoPay, rounded to the nearest dollar, before taxes, fees, devices, and promotions. Essentials Saver supports up to two lines.

Limited-time offers can lower these rates further. The Essentials 4 Line Offer brings four lines to $25 each, and select plans currently include a free third line. Promotional pricing relies on bill credits with their own terms, so check the conditions before you sign up.

Using your phone abroad can also add to your bill, depending on your plan and the roaming services you need. Essentials Saver and Essentials don’t include roaming data outside Canada and Mexico.

International Passes cost $10 for 1 day/2 GB, $50 for 10 days/15 GB, or $75 for 30 days/30 GB, including unlimited calls. For a seven-day trip, the $50 ten-day pass is the cheaper option. There’s no seven-day bundle, and seven daily passes would cost $70.

Experience More and Experience Beyond include roaming in 215+ destinations, with 5 GB and 15 GB of high-speed data, respectively. On Experience Beyond, speeds drop to up to 256 Kbps once the 15 GB is used.

Compare allowances in our guide to T-Mobile international plans, or check how T-Mobile international roaming works before you travel.

T-Mobile’s roaming benefits are designed for trips, not long stays. Its terms require you to live in the US, with most of your usage on its US network.

For extended stays abroad, having your data sorted for the month means one less thing to plan. Holafly Plans offers an unlimited data option across 160+ destinations, with no additional data roaming charges. You can navigate, message, and arrange your next stop without tracking a fixed GB allowance or buying another roaming pass.

These additional costs can increase your monthly service price:

ExtraAdditional cost

Regulatory Programs & Telco Recovery Fee$5.49/line monthly

How to get or switch to a T-Mobile postpaid plan

Whether you’re opening a new account or switching from prepaid, T-Mobile will check your identity and credit eligibility. Before signing up, have these ready:

  • Identification: A valid photo ID and address details; some ID types require additional proof of address.
  • Credit check: Required for postpaid signup; a deposit may be needed.
  • Phone: Bring an unlocked, compatible device or finance a new one, subject to eligibility.

You can usually keep your number when switching from another carrier or T-Mobile prepaid. Before setting up an eSIM, check whether your phone is unlocked and compatible with eSIM, then follow our T-Mobile eSIM setup guide.

If you have trouble connecting, our guide to T-Mobile eSIM not working can help.

With Holafly, there’s no ID check, paperwork, or store visit: buy online, install your eSIM in minutes, and connect when you arrive. You can set everything up before leaving, so you’re ready to check directions or book a ride when you land.

FAQs about T-Mobile postpaid plans

Here are answers to common questions about T-Mobile postpaid plans, from signing up to understanding your bill.

Does T-Mobile run a credit check for postpaid plans?

Yes, signing up for a T-Mobile postpaid plan requires a credit check, including when moving from prepaid. Depending on your credit qualifications, a deposit may be required.

Are taxes and fees included in T-Mobile postpaid prices?

The current Essentials and Experience 2.0 prices exclude taxes and fees. Advertised rates also assume eligible AutoPay. Expect a $5.49 monthly carrier recovery fee per voice line, other applicable surcharges, and location-dependent taxes. Device installments and optional services can increase the total further.

Do T-Mobile postpaid plans have a contract or cancellation fee?

T-Mobile’s current postpaid plans have no annual service contract or early termination fee. However, if you cancel your entire account, you must pay any remaining phone balance on your final bill. Cancelling can also end promotional phone credits, so check your offer before leaving.

Can I use an eSIM with T-Mobile postpaid plans?

Yes, you can use an eSIM with T-Mobile postpaid on a phone included in our list of eSIM-compatible phones. Phones brought from another carrier must also be unlocked and compatible with T-Mobile’s network. If you’re new to digital SIMs, learn what an eSIM is and how it works.

What is the T-Mobile postpaid charge on my bank statement?

It usually means a payment for your T-Mobile monthly bill. This can include your plan, phone payments, taxes, and extras. Check the amount against your payment history in T-Life or your online account. If it doesn’t match or you don’t have an account, contact T-Mobile and your bank.
