What is T-Mobile roaming?
T-Mobile roaming allows you to connect to local networks abroad while using your regular T-Mobile eSIM or SIM card. Whenever you cross an international border, roaming connects you to a local network in your destination, allowing you to make calls, send texts, and use high-speed data just like a local.

T-Mobile’s international roaming works differently from a day pass model. On qualifying postpaid plans such as a T-Mobile eSIM, data and texting abroad are part of the plan itself, so your phone connects when you land with nothing to buy.
Coverage runs to more than 215 countries and destinations. What you pay for is speed: the included data runs at reduced speeds, and International Passes lift that to high speed for a set number of days.

T-Mobile’s included roaming covers more than 215 destinations.
Mexico and Canada are treated differently from the rest. Most current plans include them with full LTE data rather than the reduced speeds that apply elsewhere, so a trip across either border usually needs nothing extra.
Coverage and speeds vary by destination and by the local network T-Mobile partners with. Check your specific destination on T-Mobile’s coverage page before you travel.
What your plan already includes
On Experience More and Experience Beyond plans, roaming in 215+ destinations includes:
- Up to 5 GB of high-speed data, then unlimited data at up to 256 Kbps.
- Unlimited texting.
- Calls at $0.50 a minute, including over Wi-Fi, with no charge for Wi-Fi calls to the US, Mexico and Canada.
That calling rate rose from $0.25 to $0.50 a minute on 25 June 2026, so guides written before then carry the older figure.

All three include unlimited calling in 215+ countries and destinations, which the included plan benefits do not.
The 30-day pass works out at a quarter the daily rate of the single-day one. Thirty separate 1-day passes would come to $300 against $75 for the 30-day.
How the passes work
- Passes activate immediately unless you choose a future start date.
- Buying a new pass ends any time or data left on the previous one, so it is worth letting one run out before adding another.
- If the high-speed data runs out before the pass expires, texting stays unlimited and data continues at whatever speed your plan allows.
- On plans without international data, that fallback is 128 Kbps for the duration of the pass.
- Passes do not cover cruise ship networks.
T-Mobile prepaid international roaming
Prepaid works on a different basis, and this is worth checking before you travel.
International Passes require a qualifying postpaid plan. Prepaid customers cannot buy them, and the included roaming benefits on postpaid plans do not carry across.
What prepaid customers can add is a $5 Mexico and Canada bundle, covering:
- Unlimited calling to and from the US, Mexico and Canada.
- Unlimited texting to 215+ countries and destinations.
- Up to 5 GB of high-speed data in Mexico or Canada, or your plan’s high-speed allowance if that is lower, then up to 128 Kbps.
Elsewhere, prepaid roaming is charged per country and deducted from your account balance. Some prepaid plans include up to 5 GB of high-speed data in selected Central European countries, with other destinations running at around 256 Kbps.
Per-country rates change, so check T-Mobile’s prepaid rate table for your destination before you fly.

How to activate international roaming with T-Mobile
The process of activating T-Mobile international data roaming depends on your roaming plan. For roaming-inclusive monthly plans, simply activate data roaming through your phone’s settings, and you’ll be able to use your phone just as you would at home.
If you want to use the T-Mobile international roaming pass, you’ll have to get the pass first. Here’s how you can do it:
- Log in to your T-Mobile account on the website or through the T-Mobile app.
- Go to the Manage Add-Ons section.
