Saily eSIM review

What is Saily?

Saily is a virtual SIM service created by NordSecurity, the cybersecurity company behind NordVPN and NordPass.

Currently, Saily offers plans in 190 destinations worldwide. You can get one either through the Saily app or through their website. As of now, the company only offers limited data packages and no unlimited data plans are available. All plans are data-only, which means that you don’t get a phone number for calls or SMS messages

Let’s take a look at some of the main pros and cons of the service.

ProsCons
Affordable eSIM plansNo unlimited data packages
Dedicated apps for iOS and AndroidNo live chat is available on the website
Compatible with most eSIM-phonesLimited payment methods
Data-only, no voice calls or SMS available

Data plans and pricing

Saily doesn’t have unlimited data packages. Saily provides data plans with options that range from 1 GB to 20 GB of data. The plans last for either 7 or 30 days.

You’ll also find regional and global eSIM plans. They’re more expensive than local plans but include multiple destinations in a single eSIM, with some plans lasting up to 365 days. That said, the longer duration doesn’t offer more data. Regional and global plans offer no more than 20 GB of data, except for the Europe plan, which goes up to 100 GB.

Needless to say, 20 GB won’t last you a year of constant travel. So even if the plan looks appealing at first, you’ll have to keep topping it up and spend more money to stay connected.

Single destinations plans range from $1.99 USD to $44.99 with prices going up to $179.99 for regional plans. To avoid going through each of Saily’s nearly 200 plans, let’s take a look at some of the most popular options:

USAEuropeGlobal
1 GB for 7 days$3.99$4.99$8.99
2 GB for 15 days$16.49
3 GB for 30 days$8.99$12.49
5 GB for 30 days$13.99$19.49$33.99 (60 days)
10 GB for 30 days$22.99$35.99$56.99 (180 days)
20 GB for 30 days$36.99$66.99 (365 days)
50 GB for 90 days$95.99
100 GB for 180 days$179.99

Since all of Saily’s plans offer limited cellular data, you’ll want to keep an eye on your usage to avoid running out. If you see that you’re getting close to using your data limit, consider buying a top-up to add data to your existing Saily eSIM

As it stands, data for top-ups costs the same as data for a new plan. The only benefit for buying more is getting more Saily credits, all while you’re constantly at risk of losing connection.

Payment methods

You can buy a Saily eSIM using the most popular payment methods such as credit card, Google Pay, Apple Pay, or PayPal. No less-popular, niche payment methods are available.

Coverage

Saily currently offers coverage in 190 destinations, as well as seven different regional plans and a global plan. Keep in mind that regional plans may not cover every country in the area, and the global plan won’t cover every country in the world. So if you’re going for a regional plan, make sure it covers every destination you plan to visit.

When it comes to connection speeds, you can expect 5G coverage wherever available, with 4G and 3G speeds where it isn’t. Keep in mind that 5G is typically only available in populated areas in and around cities. So don’t expect lightning-fast speeds if you’re out exploring in the wilderness.

Just like most eSIMs, Saily will connect you to local providers wherever you go, so the coverage will also inevitably depend on the provider they’re using in your destination country.

Customer support

Having a long list of destinations and solid coverage is all good and well until your Saily eSIM stops working or you have urgent questions about the service. That’s when you need a solid customer support team to aid you

While Saily does have a vast knowledge base on its Help Center page, getting to a real customer support agent is a touch complicated. First of all, live chat isn’t available on the website at all, the best you can do is tap the Submit a request button on the top right corner of the Help Center page, fill out a form, and wait for someone to respond via email.

The only way to get to the live chat is through the app, and even then, it takes quite a few steps to get there. You’ll need to open the app, navigate to the Help section, select either of the three options presented, then tap Contact support, fill out a form, and only then you’ll be directed to the live chat.

The company makes it quite difficult for you to get help from an agent, which can be annoying when you need help fast. It’s a stark contrast to the likes of Holafly, where you’re never more than one or two buttons away from talking to a real support agent, whether on the website or the app.

Refund policy

Saily’s refund policy is fairly flexible. They offer refunds for any unused plans and plans where less than 1% of the data was used. You can still ask for a refund if you encounter issues after using more than 1% of your data limit, with such requests being evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

All refund requests need to be filed within 30 days of purchase, and it takes up to five working days for Saily to evaluate your request and get back to you. If you’re granted a refund, it’ll take up to 30 days for it to get transferred to your account.

Security features

With Saily being a part of the cybersecurity giant NordSecurity, you’d expect to have some extra security features implemented into the service. And you’d be right.

Saily allows you to change your virtual location by routing your internet traffic through a server in a different country. It also includes an ad blocker and a web protection feature that reduces trackers and filters out potentially malicious websites. These have no direct impact on the quality of the eSIM service itself, but are a nice bonus to have available.

Saily app

You can use Saily’s eSIMs without the app, but the dedicated apps for iOS and Android make it easier and quicker to buy and activate your eSIM and track mobile data usage.

All in all, it’s a fairly simple, yet intuitive app. The eSIM shop, Help Center, Credits, and your profile information are a click away from the home screen. It’s also easier to activate your eSIM on the app compared to doing so manually. The only main drawback is the difficulty getting through to a live support agent.

  • Pros:
    • Information about the installation is available on the app.
    • It’s easy to browse through the different destinations available.
    • You can check destinations without creating an account on the Saily app.
    • Shows information about the data usage, how your plan long lasts, and if it’s active.
  • Cons:
    • Harder to contact customer support through the mobile app.

Saily eSIM review: Customer opinions

Even though Saily has been available for just a touch over nine months as of the writing of this article, it already has over 1,500 reviews on Trustpilot with an average ranking of 4.0/5. Many users compliment the quality of customer support, that said, reports of issues with the service itself are quite prevalent.

Here’s what some of the users have had to say about Saily’s eSIM service.

I have used Saily in three countries now. It worked very well in both Australia and Japan, I found it very simple to install and generally user friendly. I could not get it to work in Rwanda on my phone, and when I sent an inquiry on this, they were quick to provide me with a refund. I will keep using Saily and recommend it to others!

– Sine Grude, Trustpilot

I bought a Saily SIM card for my trip to Mexico (Cancun, Tulum, Chichen Itza, and Merida). It worked for the first day near the airport, then stopped. I had to turn my US cell phone service back on in desperation. When I asked Customer Service for a refund, they said because I had already used more than 1% of my data I was not entitled to a refund.

– NL, Trustpilot

I had an issue with my eSim not allowing me to use it in my desired country but then Lazaro Caballero from support helped me in the nicest way possible. One of the best customer support interactions I’ve ever had.

Is the Saily eSIM worth it?

Saily is a solid option with affordable pricing and good coverage. However, being a relatively new service, there are a few things it can still iron out, such as the hard-to-access customer support and the lack of unlimited data plans

If you’re looking for a tried-and-tested eSIM service, Holafly is the way to go. With many years in the eSIM game and more than 50,000 reviews on Trustpilot with an average rating of 4.6/5, Holafly is the most trusted eSIM provider worldwide. Enjoy unlimited data with all plans, 24/7 customer support, and coverage in 200+ destinations.
