How much a FirstNet postpaid plan really costs

FirstNet postpaid plans cost roughly $45-100/month for one line with eligible AutoPay and paperless billing, before taxes, fees, and device payments. The monthly price per line drops when you add more qualifying smartphone lines.

Number of linesMonthly cost per line
1 line$45-100
2 lines$40.50-90
3 lines$31.50-75
4 lines$27-65

Multi-line FirstNet pricing requires each smartphone user to qualify separately. Family members who aren’t eligible can join the same account through FirstNet and Family on AT&T consumer plans, with different pricing.

Roaming costs also need to be considered when budgeting for travel. Value 2.0 and Extra 2.0 include Canada and Mexico, while Premium 2.0 adds 20 Latin American countries. For destinations outside those inclusions, International Daily Pass costs $12 per line per day.

For example, seven chargeable days in Spain adds $84 to your monthly bill, before taxes and fees.

Elite 2.0 includes talk, text, and data across 210+ destinations, with 20GB of high-speed international data per billing cycle. After 20GB, speeds may drop to 512Kbps.

International benefits are intended for trips abroad. FirstNet may remove them if you use your plan mainly outside the US. For trips beyond your plan’s included coverage, FirstNet international roaming explains the available passes and additional charges.

How to get or switch to a FirstNet postpaid plan

Start online, by phone, or at an AT&T store, and prepare the following:

  • Identification: Have government-issued ID ready; proof of address may be requested.
  • Eligibility documents: Provide evidence of your qualifying public safety role within 30 days of notification.
  • Credit approval: A credit check applies, and a deposit or advance payment may be required depending on your credit history.
  • Phone: Bring a compatible, unlocked FirstNet-capable device or purchase a new one, with financing subject to approval.

You can request to keep an eligible number when switching carriers. Before choosing an eSIM, check that your phone is unlocked and appears on the eSIM-compatible phones list. Once you’ve confirmed FirstNet compatibility and your eligibility, you can get and activate a FirstNet eSIM.

With Holafly, getting connected is simple: no ID submission, paperwork, or store visit required. Buy your eSIM online and install it before you travel, so you can connect as soon as you land.

FAQs about FirstNet postpaid plans

Here are answers to common questions about FirstNet postpaid pricing, eligibility, and account requirements.

Is FirstNet prepaid or postpaid?

FirstNet is a postpaid service offering monthly plans for eligible public safety professionals. FirstNet doesn’t offer prepaid plans. AT&T Prepaid is a separate service, so buying an AT&T prepaid SIM doesn’t provide access to FirstNet’s network, priority features, or plans.

Who qualifies for FirstNet postpaid plans?

FirstNet postpaid plans are available to eligible first responders and qualifying public safety professionals, including certain healthcare workers, dispatchers, and utilities personnel. Qualification depends on your role and duties. New subscribers must submit verification documents within 30 days of their first eligibility notification.

Does FirstNet run a credit check for postpaid plans?

Yes, FirstNet postpaid applications are subject to credit approval. AT&T may require a deposit or advance payment depending on your credit history, particularly if you have limited credit. Device financing is also subject to approval, and not every applicant needs to pay a deposit.

Are taxes and fees included in FirstNet postpaid prices?

No, FirstNet postpaid prices don’t include taxes, carrier fees, or device installments. An activation or upgrade fee of up to $50 may also apply. Advertised discounted prices require eligible AutoPay and paperless billing, and the discount amount depends on your payment method.

Can my family share a FirstNet account?

Yes, your family can share one account and bill through FirstNet and Family. Each person who qualifies can have a FirstNet plan. Relatives who don’t qualify can join on regular AT&T plans instead. Sharing an account doesn’t give everyone FirstNet access or the same pricing.

Are AT&T and FirstNet the same thing?

AT&T operates FirstNet, but they are different services. FirstNet serves eligible first responders and public safety professionals, with dedicated network capabilities and priority access. AT&T consumer plans serve the general public. FirstNet and Family lets both types of lines share one account without giving everyone FirstNet access.
