Búzios
Búzios is the ideal getaway for many reasons, and that’s why it’s among Pedro’s favorites close to Rio.
A trip from Rio takes around 2:30 hours, and it’s best to spend a day there, especially if you want to enjoy one of the most vibrant nightlife scenes in all of Brazil.
Búzios is also a great romantic getaway with over 20 beaches to explore and a modern atmosphere. Plus, after a long day relaxing at the beach, you can make a stop at Vibz, Gypsy, or Bardot Sunset to get some drinks and dance.
Fun fact: Búzios’ popularity increased exponentially after Brigitte Bardot’s visit in 1964, when she went to escape the paparazzi alongside her boyfriend, Bob Zagury.
Ilha Grande
Ilha Grande is the last destination recommended by Pedro, and it’s actually one of the best to explore while in Rio, as it’s a year-round destination.
But for Pedro, the best months to explore Ilha Grande are from May to October, when the weather is more stable, making it far easier to explore the island on foot and by boat.
Visiting Ilha Grande takes around 4 hours from Rio, with a 2:30-hour bus ride to Angra dos Reis, followed by a 90-minute ferry ride to the island.
