Three international roaming: Charges, passes, and destinations
Whether roaming is included on your Three plan depends on when you joined. Check which rules apply to you before you travel.
Planning a trip abroad and looking for a way to stay connected? If you’re a Three user in the UK, you can use Three international roaming to use your phone just as you would at home. While it sounds great, roaming isn’t free and comes with some restrictions. Follow along to learn all about Three roaming options, prices, and alternatives to consider.
Whether roaming is included on your Three plan depends on when you joined, not just which plan you’re on. Three has three different daily rates depending on your join date, and Go Roam passes work out cheaper than all of them.
What is Three international roaming?
Simply put, Three roaming is what allows you to use your regular Three eSIM or SIM card abroad. Most phone service providers have agreements with local providers in other countries. When you cross an international border, you can use data roaming to connect to a local network in the country you’re visiting without the need to change your SIM card.
Three’s roaming service is called Go Roam. It covers more than 160 destinations, split into three groups: Go Roam in Europe, Around the World, and Around the World Extra. Which group your destination falls into decides what you pay.

Does your Three plan include roaming?
Three Your Way Value and Complete plans either have roaming built in or come with Daily Go Roam passes. You can check which you have in My3 or the Three app.
Lite plans and older Advanced plans don’t include Daily Go Roam passes. On those, you unlock your allowances by buying a Go Roam pass or paying a daily roaming charge.
Either way, Three’s fair use policy caps roaming data at 12 GB a month across all plans.
Three daily roaming fees
If your plan doesn’t include roaming and you haven’t bought a pass, you pay a daily fee to unlock your allowances. What you pay depends on your destination and when you joined.
| Destination band | Joined 1 Oct 2021 to 17 Dec 2025 | Joined from 1 Jun 2025 on a SIM Only 24-month Lite plan | Joined on or after 18 Dec 2025 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Go Roam in Europe | £2 a day | £2 a day | £2.75 a day from 1 April 2026 |
| Go Roam Around the World | £7 a day | £5 a day | £8 a day from 1 April 2026 |
| Go Roam Around the World Extra | £7 a day | £7 a day | £8 a day from 1 April 2026 |
Joined before October 2021? Your charges are in Three’s price guide rather than on the Go Roam page. Three has also said the 2026 rates will rise each year.
Set a spend cap in My3 that covers the daily fee for the length of your trip. If it’s set to zero or too low, you may not be able to roam at all.
Across the UK networks, O2 international roaming avoids the question entirely by including the EU on every plan. EE roaming charges are £2.72 a day, and EE passes can only be bought after you land. [Vodafone UK roaming] is £2.75 a day.
Three Go Roam pass prices
A Go Roam pass unlocks your UK allowance for a set number of days without the daily charge. Each one gives you up to two days of roaming free compared with paying daily.
| Pass | Duration | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Go Roam in Europe | 3 days | £5 |
| Go Roam in Europe | 7 days | £12 |
| Go Roam in Europe | 14 days | £24 |
| Go Roam Around the World | 3 days | £12.50 |
| Go Roam Around the World | 7 days | £30 |
| Go Roam Around the World | 14 days | £60 |
| Go Roam Around the World Extra | 3 days | £17.50 |
| Go Roam Around the World Extra | 5 days | £29.75 |
| Go Roam Around the World Extra | 7 days | £42 |
| Go Roam Around the World Extra | 14 days | £84 |
The passes stack downwards, which matters when you’re choosing one. An Around the World pass also covers Go Roam in Europe. An Around the World Extra pass covers all three bands. If your trip takes in Spain and Thailand, one Extra pass covers both rather than needing two.
How they work:
- A pass activates on first use of your UK allowance in a Go Roam destination, not when you buy it. That means a call, a text or any data use.
- Durations run in hours and ignore time zones: three days is 72 hours, seven days is 168, fourteen days is 336.
- You can buy several at once. They redeem in the order you bought them, and separately for each band.
- Three texts you when an unlocked period starts and ends.
Three Data Travel Passes
A Data Travel Pass is a separate product, and it works differently in one important way: the data doesn’t come out of your UK allowance at all.
| Pass | Duration | Data | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Europe | 1 day | Unlimited | £7 |
| Europe | 7 days | 18 GB | £16 |
| Europe | 14 days | 40 GB | £33 |
| Worldwide | 7 days | 18 GB | £26 |
| Worldwide | 14 days | 40 GB | £54 |
These cover 51 Europe or 31 Worldwide destinations and activate on first use of data. If you’ve already used most of your monthly allowance before travelling, a Data Travel Pass is usually the better choice than a Go Roam pass.
Where Three roaming costs nothing
Roaming in the Republic of Ireland and the Isle of Man costs nothing on any Three plan, and your inclusive passes aren’t used up there.
In the Republic of Ireland all of your UK allowance may be used, so the 12 GB fair use cap doesn’t apply there. There are also no fair use limits on calls or texts anywhere in Go Roam in Europe.
Three roaming zones and destinations
The price and conditions of international roaming tend to differ from country to country. Before we dive into the prices for each, let’s take a look at countries covered by different Three roaming zones.

Go Roam covers over 160 destinations across three bands: 49 in Go Roam in Europe, 22 in Around the World and 92 in Around the World Extra. Which band your destination sits in decides your daily fee and which pass you need.
Three roaming on Pay as you go
Pay as you go works on a different model. Daily roaming charges don’t apply, and Go Roam Around the World Extra isn’t available. Instead, your roaming allowance is tied to your Data Pack.
| Data Pack | Roaming allowance |
|---|---|
| £10, 40 GB | 6 GB |
| £15, 100 GB | 12 GB |
| £20, 200 GB | 18 GB |
| £35 Unlimited | 30 GB |
| £90 Unlimited, three months | 30 GB |
Go Roam in Europe gives you unlimited minutes and texts on Pay as you go. Around the World gives 3,000 of each. If your UK data allowance runs out, further data costs 0.3p per MB.
Your roaming allowance is part of your UK allowance, not on top of it. Use it all at home before you travel and you’ll have none left abroad

How to activate international roaming with Three
The process for activating data roaming depends on whether or not you have roaming included in your monthly plan. If you do, all you need to do is turn on data roaming in your phone settings, and you’ll be able to use the internet abroad.
If on a monthly plan, you also won’t need to do anything at all for calls and messages. To make calls to the UK while abroad, you’ll need to replace the first 0 with +44 when dialing a number.
If roaming isn’t included in your plan, you should first log into your My3 account on the Three website and buy a roaming pass. Once you have your pass, you can turn on data roaming in your phone settings and enjoy using data, making calls, and sending texts.
If you turn on data roaming without having a roaming pass or an inclusive plan, you’ll automatically be charged pay-as-you-go charges. That’s why it’s recommended to keep data roaming off until you’ve made sure that you have a valid roaming plan.

How to activate a Go Roam pass
Go Roam passes work automatically. There’s no activation step once you’ve bought one.
Buy your pass in My3 or the Three app, either before you leave or while you’re abroad. It starts working as soon as you use any of your allowances in a Go Roam destination, whether that’s a call to a UK number, a text, or opening an app that uses data.
Check that data roaming is switched on in your phone settings before you travel. Without it, the pass can’t connect you.
How to avoid Three roaming charges
While you can include roaming on your monthly plans, it adds extra costs every month, which add up over time. For other plans, you have to pay for a roaming pass just to access your regular allowances. Thankfully, you can avoid this by using an eSIM for international travel.
In recent years, eSIMs have become the most popular way to stay connected while travelling, thanks to the convenience and pricing they offer. You can buy, set up, and activate your eSIM online within minutes and enjoy steady mobile internet wherever you go.
Enjoy unlimited data abroad with Holafly
Three’s roaming rules depend on when you joined, which tier you’re on, and which of three destination groups you’re travelling to. A Holafly travel eSIM skips all of that: unlimited data, 5G speeds where available, and 24/7 support from our team, at one price you see upfront.
If you travel often, Holafly Plans covers 160+ destinations on a single eSIM, with no long-term contract and the option to cancel anytime.
Every Holafly eSIM includes Always On: 1 GB of monthly backup data, at no added cost, in 150+ destinations. It renews each month for as long as the eSIM stays installed, so you’re covered on a long layover or the day your plan runs out. Peace of mind, wherever you’re headed.
