Singtel China roaming

What is Singtel China roaming?

Singtel is one of Singapore’s leading mobile providers, offering both postpaid and prepaid plans. While some phone or SIM plans include roaming across Asia and worldwide, they may not always meet your travel needs. Purchasing a dedicated Singtel China roaming plan is often a more flexible option for Singtel users traveling to China.

With Singtel China roaming, you’ll be connected to the local partners, such as China Mobile, China Unicom, and China Telecom, allowing you to stay connected in China using local networks.

Below, we’ll break down the available roaming plans for postpaid and prepaid users so you can easily compare coverage, price, and data allowance.

Singtel postpaid plans for China

Postpaid Singtel users can select a wide variety of add-on roaming plans, making it easy to stay connected while traveling to China. All add-on plans can be purchased via the My Singtel app. Some plans are available through the Singtel website chatbot or via phone call

*The fair usage limit for UnlimitedRoam 14 Days is 15GB
**The daily fair usage limit for DataRoam unlimited daily is subject to change without prior notification, depending on network capacity and traffic management

All plans must be activated within 30 days of purchase. If you use up your data limit on ReadyRoam plans, you will automatically be charged for a data add-on to your plan. For example, if you use up a 4GB ReadyRoam Asia plan, another 4GB will automatically be added for $18.

While Singtel China roaming data plans do not cover calls or SMS, you can get an allowance of calls and texts separately with the SMSVoiceRoam plan

Singtel prepaid plans for China

Singtel prepaid users can roam in China by purchasing a hi!DataRoam Plan through the hi!App. The main option is the 7-day Asia Prepaid DataRoam (Plan B), priced at $20 for 6GB. This plan also covers destinations such as Japan, South Korea, Australia, and India. In China, the plan works on China Mobile and China Unicom networks.

The plan activates immediately after purchase, and the 7-day validity runs consecutively, with any unused data expiring at the end of the period.

Singtel China Pay-per-use charges

If you use roaming in China without a plan, Singtel will charge $25 per MB of roaming data you use. This means that a single MB of data on pay-per-use rates is more expensive than some roaming plans. All in all, it’s best to get a roaming plan or a travel eSIM to avoid excessive pay-per-use charges.

Can Singtel roaming use WhatsApp in China?

Yes, you can continue using WhatsApp in China when connected through Singtel’s roaming service. Since your mobile data is routed via Singtel’s overseas partner networks, WhatsApp messages and social media will generally work without restriction.

That said, if you need access to other apps or websites that are normally blocked in China, or if you’re concerned about privacy, it’s best to use a reputable VPN service alongside your roaming plan. This ensures you have more reliable access to your usual online services throughout your trip.

Avoid roaming bill shock in China with Holafly’s unlimited eSIM

The Holafly China eSIM provides unlimited data, reliable coverage, and 24/7 customer support, with flexible durations ranging from a few days to several weeks. Plans start from USD $3.90 per day, making it a strong alternative for digital nomads, remote workers, and frequent travelers who need consistent connectivity without worrying about roaming bill shock.
