International travel eSIM for Japan

Your plan starts the moment you activate your eSIM by scanning the QR code on your smartphone.

At the moment, you cannot renew the data on your Japan digital SIM. However, you can purchase another eSIM if you need more data.

The Japan digital SIM only comes with cellular data. It does not include a local phone number for phone calls or text messages. You can still make calls using apps like WhatsApp.

After your purchase, we will send a QR code to your email. Either print the QR code or open it on your computer. On your cellphone, go to Settings > Mobile Data > Add Data Plan and scan the QR code. You can rename the data plan on your phone. Then, you’ll be able to switch between your Holafly data plan and the original plan from your provider. The Holafly data plan will only be operational once you arrive at your destination. Once you land, turn on data roaming on your cellphone’s settings and activate the Holafly data plan. Check your phone’s user manual for more details on adding a data plan. All eSIM products come with comprehensive set-up instructions.

Once you purchase a digital SIM, you will receive it immediately to your email address. You then just need to scan the QR code to activate the virtual SIM. Note that no refunds can be made once you purchase your eSIM. See our refund policy for more information.

Set up your eSIM before your departure. Once you reach your destination, just activate the data plan, and turn on data roaming. We recommend you print the QR code and take it with you on your vacation just in case. Remember that you need a prior internet connection to activate the eSIM. Set up is quick and you will be able to enjoy your data plan right away.

You don’t need to do anything to keep your WhatsApp number. You’ll automatically keep your number, contacts and conversations.

You can check how much data you have by going to your device’s data settings. Our support team cannot tell you how much data you have remaining.

The Holafly virtual SIM offers maximum speed coverage (4GLTE). But bear in mind that in some areas of limited coverage there may be a lower speed connection.

Your eSIM can only be activated on one device. If you delete the digital SIM from your device, you will not be able to reuse it. You cannot scan the QR code on two devices.

Yes. To ensure that your eSIM gets the best coverage, you must turn on data roaming on your phone’s settings. This will not incur any additional charges, as long as you have already the Holafly eSIM set up correctly.

If you are using an Apple device, you can use your SIM card and your eSIM at the same time. Choose the SIM card for phone calls and SMS, and Holafly eSIM for data from your device. Please remember that if you leave your SIM card activated, your network provider may apply data roaming charges to receive or make phone calls as well as send SMS.

If you use all your data or run out of days, your eSIM card will no longer work and you will lose internet connection.

The eSIM is a digital product. Holafly cannot check if you have used the data plan associated with the prepaid eSIM card. Therefore, once your digital SIM is delivered, we cannot offer a refund. Please see our eSIM Refund Policy for more information.

The Japan eSIM uses KDDI, one of the best eSIM providers in the country.

This eSIM includes unlimited data for the corresponding valid days. However, please note that the operator may reserve the right to apply a Fair Usage Policy, as it applies to all other network users. In particular, if the operator estimates the usage of more than 90GB of data in a month, they may temporarily reduce the speed to between 256-1024KB to avoid affecting other users. This limitation is intended to prevent network saturation and will be removed within 24 hours.
